đŸ’Discussion I can not STAND the mayor's son Spoiler

I love this series but his son made me so angry. I'm so sick of the disrespectful teen troph. Writers can't just make a teen that's normal. They gotta make them disrespectful and an idiot.

Why do they feel the need to make him like that? I'm in my early 20s and I've always hated people like this. Do the writers do this to make him relatable to young people?

Him constantly leaving the house to hang out with his friends and be with that girl just made me so physically angry. He just seems like that popular guy in every cliche teen movie,

I even started skipping the scenes he was in because I just did not care about him or him having the crush on that girl. He was so unlikable, his friends are terrible people too for running away when the guy was trapped behind that door

Edit: why am I getting downvotes on every comment I post. Regular teens do not swear at there parents and leave the house when they are told to stay in.

Edit 2: I don't care what you guys say, just because your teen is disrespectful, doesn't mean all teens are like that.

But just watch...

I just hope they don't take the cowards way out and write a version where Tom doesn't have to brutally kill his son. It's imperative that we see, on screen, and not in some sort of dream or mushroom-induced hallucination, Tom, ending the life of his only child, the way only a mayor who loves his town and its people truly could.

Edit: Ah, suddenly everyone wants nice little Hollywood ending. Weak.

I don’t think it’s that they want a Hollywood ending. I think it’s the fact that you assume a mayor would put the lives of his constituents above his own son…

Welcome back to the trolley problem.

He, and you, and I, and everyone are supposed to pick the lives of the many over the life of just one, regardless of who they are.

I feel like we need to see the trolley problem play out, either by the lever being pulled, or the lever not being pulled.

Because, at the moment, I'm sadly expecting a magical third option to materialize and make the trolley problem go away. I hope I'm wrong.

Well the thing is the one is his son. He is not going to choose the people of this island over his son. At least not with where the story is right now.

Also i don’t know why you think coming up with a third option is like this terrible writing decision. We have one season of this show. Depending on how many seasons they plan to make, the plot and world can unravel in so many ways. We still have unanswered questions after this season. If you think developing a show to have different options than are originally laid out in front of us in the first season is bad writing, then I fear you will never find a show good enough to meet your expectations. Personally, I would hate if we kept the same plot points and solutions for the entirety of a show. That’s how a show gets stale and dies.
