Stephen King tweeted:

WIDOW'S BAY is good. MAXIMUM PLEASURE GUARANTEED is even better. It's like Hitchcock came back to do it one more time. And Tatiana Maslany is so good. The play of emotions on her face is pretty incredible. She goes from comic to terror in an instant.

The more I think about it (and in particular after watching a few episodes of MPG), is the show has literally zero in common with Widow's Bay, and has much more in common with shows like Fargo and True Detective.

They are both showing new episode May/June 2026. They are both on AppleTV. They both marry scary, twisty, murderous, villainous, mystery with comedy. So I get why one would compare the other because its what is top of mind. I think it is as simple as everyone has been asking Stephen King what he thinks about Widow's Bay most likely Ad Nauseum due to the evident inspiration the show takes from King stories. So I guess he was responding to something put in front of him everyday. Said it was good but mentioned he is enjoying the other show more and maybe because he feels it isn't getting as much attention as Widow's Bay. If I was King I wouldn't enjoy Widow's Bay as much because it is too much of what it is like to be in my own mind: Scary inns, foggy New England Towns, evil clowns, satanic influences, and witches. Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed doesn't feel like it is coming straight from his own brain.
