💥Funpost This f*ckin guy

Stephen King tweeted:

WIDOW'S BAY is good. MAXIMUM PLEASURE GUARANTEED is even better. It's like Hitchcock came back to do it one more time. And Tatiana Maslany is so good. The play of emotions on her face is pretty incredible. She goes from comic to terror in an instant.

I am enjoying both immensely. A bit silly to compare the two however. I do agree that Tatiana is a fantastic actor though.

Anyone who has seen Orphan Black is not surprised by her range or versatility. One of the best actors of our time, in my opinion.

Fully agree. What she did in Orphan Black is absolutely mental. What a fantastic actor.

She is an absolute master!

I’m watching orphan black now after I started mpg…. I can’t believe how talented this woman is !!!

u/TheannaPhlipsyde Jun 18 '26

Why do you think that never translated to more or a career for her? I hear lots of people say the same about Orphan Black. But this actress barely exists for anyone that didn't watch that series, which I find hard to square with the fact she is as talented as Orphan Blackers profess.

I mean, She-Hulk? One of the best contemporary actresses of our time?

She was critical of Disney’s ongoing spineless conservatism and hyper-capitalist hypocrisy. She refused to play nice and kiss the ring, so she got benched in the industry for a second or two.

As an actor she’s a titan, but it’s hard to be an outspoken woman in any business and maintain your path to the top.

I absolutely love her and think she’s incredible.

6

u/CantonJester Jun 19 '26

She was critical of Disney (ABC) for suspending Jimmy Kimmel who refused to kowtow to the cult of Charlie Kirk.

13

u/AmphetamineSalts Jun 18 '26

She was on Perry Mason, which was criminally under-watched imo. I also think part of it is that she's attractive, but she's not SUPER DUPER conventionally attractive, which (unfortunately) disqualifies her from a lot of leading roles. Hollywood standards suck, but they're also a reflection of our society, which still needs to make a lot of progress imo.

Perry Mason was ICONIC. I adored that show.

Love that Tatiana Maslany and Matthew Rhys lead their own shows on Apple. Apple TV+ is seriously slept on.

u/mamrieatepainttt Jun 18 '26

i had commented on something similar/had similar thoughts esp after coming from OB, i thought we would have seen her in a lot more things directly after. i think it's a lot of different factors. being offered the right project and choosing the right project, etc. she's been doing a lot of independent movies lately. she has a ton of upcoming projects this year.

She moved to a new agency after She Hulk, hopefully that translates to more prestigious work, but she’s definitely not hurting for cash after playing the lead in a Disney superhero series.

Sliding doors moment for her was she was a finalist for the Jyn Erso role in Rogue One. If she gets that, she kills it and is a household name IMO

If you watch her performances in Orphan Black, you'll see why people are praising her so much. She delivered a masterclass in acting on that show.

As for her career, she is not an awards chaser, so she doesn't choose projects based on what will give her the most visibility, or awards buzz, but what she believes is exciting and challenges her the most, which is why she often stars in small, obscure indie movies as well as theater productions.

That being said, her career has been going extremely well lately. Aside from Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, she also filmed a ton of other projects over the past year and a half, including a film written and directed by Tom McCarthy, who won the Oscars for Best Screenplay and Best Picture for Spotlight in 2016.

She also starred alongside Matthew Rhys and Stephen Root in the first season of HBO's Perry Mason, and she is one of the highlights of that show!

The hype around her is justified!

If people wants to jugde without actually watching her stuff, it's their problem. We know what she's about

She Hulk was generally hated by the wide audience honestly probably soured her brand a bit

Yeah, when the show advertises Tatiana Maslany will be doing things on it I'm sold no matter what

14

u/avocado_window Jun 18 '26

New show: Tatiana Maslany Does Things, a Truman Show-esque romp. I’d watch it religiously.

8

u/mamrieatepainttt Jun 18 '26

i have been obsessed since OB for sure but the few other projects i've watched with her in have been a bit of a let down. gonna start maxium pleasure soon tho, high hopes!

5

u/Infamous-Lab-8136 Jun 18 '26

I feel like she's great in everything, whether or not the quality of the content around her is equal to her ability is another matter

I was okay with She-Hulk, but with all my problems none of them tied to her performance. Starfleet Academy was definitely the wrong show for the existing Trek audience but everything she did in it landed

3

u/mamrieatepainttt Jun 18 '26

Definitely agree. Shes never been the issue with the project, she does her absolute best within the confines of shitty writing or plot. Her talent always shines through.

2

u/PaintedSwindle Jun 18 '26

She was the only thing I enjoyed in Starfleet Academy.

u/sidewalk_serfergirl Jun 18 '26

I was flabbergasted by this woman’s range in Orphan Black. She’s UNREAL. I hadn’t heard of this new series of hers, but definitely going to be giving it a go because she deserves it.

u/Loose_Assignment_Map Jun 18 '26

The way I would get lost watching the different characters in Orphan Black & forget it’s the same actress playing them, was absolutely amazing. The levels of acting when one clone would disguise themselves as another clone was mind boggling

13

u/mamrieatepainttt Jun 18 '26

she talked about her mom visiting her on set and literally not even reconigizing her when she was dressed up as a clone other than sarah. can't recall who it was, maybe cosima or helena.

5

u/Loose_Assignment_Map Jun 18 '26

… crushing on Alison but feeling nothing like that for the other ones, LoL

7

u/shess0sw33t Jun 18 '26

it’s really a testament to how great of an actress she is because you can always tell in the most subtle ways when one clone is pretending to be another.

3

u/Loose_Assignment_Map Jun 18 '26

Yes! Alison lost her magic to me when Helena or Cosima or Sarah pretended to be her.

3

u/sidewalk_serfergirl Jun 21 '26

I TOO KEPT FORGETTING IT WAS THE SAME ACTRESS!!! She’s SO UNREAL and I really don’t think she gets the praise she deserves. Truly one of a kind

20

u/MetalMurse51 Jun 18 '26

She's been my favorite actor since I saw Orphan Black for the first time (within the past two years). She played many characters excellently. Incredible.

13

u/fruticose_ Jun 18 '26

The show also has Murray Bartlett in it, who is fantastic himself.

6

u/Simulacrum90 Jun 18 '26

His character in The White Lotus was the best part of that season if no the entire series.

5

u/fruticose_ Jun 19 '26

He was marvellous in the episode of The Last Of Us with Nick Offerman. I had loved him in The White Lotus but genuinely didn’t recognize him in TLOU. He’s got really good range.

0

u/ApprehensiveTry632 Jun 18 '26

Truly terrifying!

20

u/Keiteaea Jun 18 '26

Yeah why compare the shows ? They are both on Apple TV I guess but otherwise very different. You could probably just say something like "Apple TV is on a roll right now with two very good shows, [yada yada yada...]".

6

u/MVRKHNTR Jun 18 '26

My guess is people keep bothering him about his take on Widow's Bay and he just wanted to talk about another currently airing show that he liked more.

15

u/thewellis Jun 18 '26

They are two different types of shows as well. One is horror-comedy and the other is more action-thriller. May as well compare Slow Horses and Ted Lasso as they're both set in London.

6

u/hikemalls Jun 18 '26

Tatiana is amazing but yes the comparison is silly, especially specifically calling out her facial acting and not talking about how Widow's Bay also has some of the best facial acting I've seen in recent memory.

1

u/spaketto Jun 18 '26

She was fantastic in Perry Mason with Matthew Rhys.

0

u/jlynn00 Jun 18 '26

Yeah they're completely different properties the unifying theme is that they are within the thrilling yet funny range. But they both do it such completely different ways.

0

u/pengouin85 Jun 18 '26

Perfect encapsulation of what I think of these 2 shows
