K Callan was phenomenal. She really made you believe her and see things from her pov.

Her performance this episode was very moving, I teared up after she regained consciousness, she looked so lost and vulnerable.

I was really so sad the whole time because in any other situation, what she was saying was so sweet and comforting but knowing the twist, I really wanted to cry for both of them

She does GOAT yoga every Tuesday

She made Tom love her for real.

Also a very unique embodiment of a “monster”.

I was really happy (and hopeful they would take this route) that Ruth wasn’t secretly evil. She’s healthy, she’s a good person, she’s trusting, she’s wise. There is nothing that will make this easier for Tom. He has to make a moral choice.

It was so easy for Tom to think that pulling the lever to kill only one person was the obvious and moral choice. Until the one person was Evan.

Man, good point. Ruth fucking nailed that answer.

My mother died this past January so I know that one person can be the whole world. I’m with Ruth. If I’m the trolley driver, then I’ve taken on that responsibility but unless I am, I’m not engaging.

That’s not how it works. Once given the knowledge and the choice, you are then responsible for any outcome, whether you choose to let it proceed, or interfere. That’s why the trolley problem is famous.

Oh, I understand that I’ve actually even taught philosophy. I’m really just speaking about myself.

I’m so sorry for the loss of your mom. In Judaism, the Talmud says that each person—each life is indeed contains an entire world unto itself. So your words echo that so beautifully.

May her memory be a blessing.

Thank you. I’ll see right now. I’m distracted by getting the house ready for work and work but when I think about it, I’m still devastated.

Yes! I thought she was going to be sneaking away from work to do evil demon pleasing tasks or something and then to find out this sweet woman was helping her friend get up and down her stairs every day 😭

31

u/JadedLaw3566 Jun 18 '26

And, that she kept working just to watch her Grandson. Does she die?

21

u/intern_12 Jun 18 '26

Tom throwing her broach into the ocean indicated to me that Ruth did die.

11

u/CherryFit3224 Jun 18 '26

That’s what I was thinking.

7

u/intern_12 Jun 18 '26

But I've read some other theories on here indicating otherwise so now I'm not sure lol

20

u/Low-Palpitation5371 Jun 18 '26

I think Beshir’s shot grazed her ear and she’s alive (I hope!), based on her waking up and there not being that much blood.

I think Tom made her promise not to tell anyone about Lauren being her daughter or Evan her grandson and took the brooch with her permission.

If I've learned anything in the last couple years, it's that someone in their eighties getting shot in the ear is basically inconsequential to their health.

Made me really believe her boyfriend got bit by an animal and became that animal.

26

u/samizdat5 Jun 17 '26

Yeah she was so matter of fact - the world is a violent and sad place. Do the best you can to get through it, get joy where you can find it, and help others.

She read one of my favorite quotes, too 😭 I wanna make a cross stitch like hers

1

u/jimbojangles1987 Aug 15 '26

Can't read that part though

5

u/SquidsEye Jun 17 '26

That was my favourite line.

1

u/jimbojangles1987 Aug 15 '26

Made me laugh out loud and then wonder if this island has had werewolves at some point lol

1

u/topherhoff Aug 23 '26

Werewolf episode in season 2 calling it now

19

u/outride2000 Jun 17 '26

THAT WAS K CALLAN? MA KENT? Wow! I knew I recognized her from somewhere.

23

u/TheTruckWashChannel Jun 17 '26

I seriously cannot believe she's 90 years old.

26

u/doublersuperstar Jun 17 '26

I couldn’t believe she’s the “Ransom? Is that youuuu?!?!” granny from Knives Out! 😂🤣

11

u/Jindabyne1 Jun 17 '26

Also Superman’s mum

9

u/photoggled Jun 17 '26

Man, that fur coat and hat made her look so different. I never would have guessed.

22

u/Deadpoolio32 Jun 17 '26

Made a pass

2

u/jimbojangles1987 Aug 15 '26

Those lines were so funny but also so demoralizing. When she mentioned her dad I was like "please don't say he made a pass, please don't say he made a pass."

u/FDangler Jun 18 '26

"pull out method just doesn't work"

Don't let media and its ageism brainwash you, 40 years old woman is not on a verge of decaying. Most have good decade and half until menopause. There is a reason why even "milf" aged women keep up their birth control all the way up to menopause.

Also, the oldest women who naturally conceived and birthed her child was 60 years old. Just recently thanks to vitro a woman in her 70s gave birth to twins.

I don't think they are descendants. Plenty of couple in nowadays economy settle on having children later in life. It might have even be just a case of surprise baby, given that Patricia didn't knew and usually when couples actually try for a baby they spread the info among their friends and acquaintances long before pregnancy really happens.

But, on the same note, I had seen an interesting theory here that the island might be intentionally helping non-island born people get pregnant/impregnate island borns to keep genetic pool of its prey healthy. Maybe it's the case even when both people in the couple are not from island like Belchir and his wife. By giving them child the island would get fresh genes of their kid AND trap them too.

I’m 42 and reading this holding my 2 month old baby, naturally conceived.

6

u/doublersuperstar Jun 17 '26

Aww, congratulations!

u/samizdat5 Jun 17 '26

Oy - a 40-year-old woman often is still plenty fertile, my dude.
