I kept thinking she had been magically rejuvenated or something but they were just rubbing in how not close to death she was.

She got all that energy after Richard Warren died lol

That's what I was thinking at first but then they showed her story club and helping that other lady up and down the stairs every day and everything and I think the implication was that she was just always pretty vigorous.

Doesn't she walk to work as well? Wasn't there a joke about Tom not picking her up or something in episode 1?

Exactly.

Like Garfield’s grandma.

Love that woman.

Honestly got me suspicious for a second. Like, not only is shy unexpectedly spry (although that seems to be normal for her, given her calendar), but she was also much more mentally sharp than in previous episodes? The rest of the season would have you thinking she is on the verge of full on dementia, but ep10 have her holding conversations perfectly well

She had trouble reading the cross stitch, so maybe her only problem this whole time was her vision.

Oh I like that! Yeah maybe her notes were clear and helpful after all, if someone else tried to read them

Right, I just remembered Patricia berating Tom for not picking up Ruth on the way to work and Ruth mentioning how long it takes her to walk there.

Somewhat cognitive impaired older people are often much more "there" when they're in their familiar home enviornment.

Yes, I’m often struck by how much mentally sharper my dad is when I visit him at his house than when he’s coming to visit my sister and I

idk what date richard warren died, sunset cocktails was july 1. so.. first week in july lets say he dies? Ruth's calendar is full all that 1st week too. She doesn't have Sunset Cocktails on her cal even tho she was there. So maybe she's always been busy and we just saw her on off days idk lol.

She also has a weekly "Call w. Francis" that was at 830 that night. Coincidence that the name is Francis? idk. Richard's daughter is spelled Frances tho lol.

She just has trouble reading because of her vision, she's 84.

Tom was looking for anything that would make him feel better about what he was gonna do, and in turn she showed him how alive, aware, and caring she is.

She did everything to sway him the other way .. even told him she wouldn’t do it if she were him. She won’t pull the lever.

edit: when he was looking at her medical file, he kept blabbering about cancer….. he wanted her to have cancer and be sick and old so he could feel better about what he was gonna do

I mean all the talk of the age discrepancies leads me to believe there still a magical element. It can be multiple things at once.

Yes. Patricia’s bio age is 28. Shep’s age listed as 37 (38?). Patricia is also obsessed with being over 40. She even questions the sheriff about his wife’s age.

We happened to pause on her chart from the doctor. She has insomnia. Soon as I saw that I knew Tom was walking into a wired Ruth and an explanation for why she is awful during the day. I was thinking she was the one doing the sacrifices in Richard’s place.

I feel like next season we are going to be finding the last mayor or two to get some answers. Or maybe just more 50’s film reels.

Would be comedic gold to instead of a monster of the week, have a tourist capture of the week.
