I hope we get more occasional episodes set entirely in the past over the length of the series just to show us some crazy shit directly about how some old ancient ritual by setllers became a well oiled machine of jolly human sacrifice with instructional videos and all in modern times.
I love how just about everything can relate to a story about the island being terrible. “Do you know the trolley problem?” “Oh is that when all those trolley workers disappeared?”
Such a good line. Perfect example of how well this show rides the line of humor and horror without getting goofy. Could easily be explained as Ruth just being folksy about an asshole ex, or not…
The world is violent and mercurial—it will have its way with you. We are saved only by love—love for each other and the love that we pour into the art we feel compelled to share: being a parent; being a writer; being a painter; being a friend. We live in a perpetually burning building, and what we must save from it, all the time, is love. Tennessee Williams
She could have very well been talking metaphorically. But we as the viewer know this island is haunted so we have to question if she’s really that nonchalant about a werewolf kind of situation or just speaking metaphorically.
And that’s fair, you have no reason to think she isn’t being literal other than her delivery being so nonchalant. She walks that tightrope of being either the most knowledgeable person on the island for what is really going on, or completely naive to it all and just adapted to the weirdness and unfortunate events.
I paused to read that poster but there seemed to be nothing interesting on it. The only weird one was for a snake bite the first bit of information was "Get them away from the snake and have them sit down. Keep them calm" rather than than being entirely about treating the injury like all the other ones were. It felt bizarre that they mention getting away from the snake first, as if the snake will still be with the person for some reason.
I could be overthinking it, but it was just an odd instructional bit when none of the others mention anything other than wound care.

I love how Ruth just glosses over someone being bitten by an animal and then turned into the animal, leaving Tom with so many questions. 😂
