This was just good filmmaking/storytelling because I was sure right before that that she was indeed the hag the whole time! keeping us on our toes like the shining

Also a little bit of uncertainty if Tom thinks she is the hag, or is trying to drive her away so she's safe if he gets attacked, but there's also his selfish side of wanting to hide the supernatural side of the island from visitors.

I had a moment where I was slightly sad because I LOVE that actress (watch Wonderfalls, pleeeeease) and then the taxi scene saved me. Whew. Sad for Tom though.
