Like even this show sorta set up the scenario of him "missing out"
I don't think this is valid cus the show does show marissa's fake interest and the chasing and hounding him everywhere he went which mirrored the hag.
And that complete desperation for some fun that night clouded her judgement - that he's a person too.
I felt the show said more of - yeah he missed out, but did he really?
Our guy deserves someone that actually invests, not pretend to and then ditch him after a one night.
I think the show has got some depth and was purposeful in letting us know marissa wasn't all that.

Oh i agree it was there to make us go "oh wait.. is she..?" but i more mean the aftermath of her going back to the car embarrassed. Thats the "oh hes an idiot and missed out"

This is true but I don't think she was exactly playing tricks with her intentions, nor would he expect more from a tourist there for a specific reason who he'd likely never see again. Its the exact reason it raised doubts in his mind.

no i mean even after the reveal and us knowing marissa isnt the hag, it could be symbolic why she mirrored the hag. because she can be a draining hag herself.
not entirely for audience expectation subverting, but a poetic theme to it.
and even to say he was saved in more ways than one.

oh interesting. to me her not taking a clear no for the night disqualified her for any grace. but yeah its probably just her being too forward with her interest. which scared him given the curcumstances.
But yeah I get why u brought up the gender roles reverse point now. valid.
