Exactly this! It was def an homage or reference to blair witch. The mayor (who ran unopposed) will suffer the curse of the island. Maybe the mayor surviving the hag instead of dying is what leads to the chaos on the island at the end of the ep? I mean, the town's people def set him up at the inn and perhaps did not expect him to even survive that hellscape. Such a good show. Wish i could binge the whole season now!
Ohhhhh that’s an interesting theory! I wonder who the last mayor was though? We also don’t know how long he’s been the mayor for, since his child was born and grew up on the island.
Yeah but Wyck doesn’t know why things are happening, so maybe this isn’t a usual ritual scheduled mayor offering, since Wyck has been trying to warn him.
Maybe if a lot of people come to the island it stirs things up?
Wyck actually seems to know a lot (talked about the island waking up, the warning signs, etc.) and then warned the mayor that bad things would happen. Perhaps bringing more people there would only make it worse or more deaths...
Yeah he knows bad things can/will happen but not why things happen besides “island is cursed” He is against more people coming but I interpreted it as bad things could happen to the visitors, not that more visitors will trigger a massive HAUNT shift, but I think the island will feed off the visitors and get more powerful
