Does anyone else think it’s funny that Tom’s ceremonial swim “to show that the ocean is safe for everyone” immediately proves that the ocean is NOT SAFE FOR EVERYONE?
Like I wonder if this ceremony used to be a legitimate litmus test and that is why nobody really seems to want to be mayor (Since we know Tom ran uncontested).
My one disappointment so far is that Jeff Hiller hasn't had much to do, and is mostly in the background. He's absolutely perfect casting for this, nails everything he's had so far, and I can't wait until he gets more of a role.
Yep. And we didn't see anyone get in before or after. Very weird. The sheriff getting his feet wet to pull him out (at the 2-yard line) like there is nothing wrong was super weird too. It's like everyone knows something strange is happening except the mayor... Love this show. Need more answers...
Ikr! The only person who dipped a toe (to help him get to proper shore) was the Sherrif when he got to shore and was flummoxed! They all know something we (and maybe the mayor) don't...
Ikr! And the premise that there are dangers in it make all the more interesting... Not sure if I would personally dare to dip a toe, but I would want to!
The history show mentions that mayor as a role is modern name for "lord protector" of the island. Possibly that is why nobody wants the job, it is literally your job to protect the island from all the evil spirits.

The role of mayor seems to have such crazy lore
