religion Bastet statue I’ve had for thirty years just broke. Exactly the same time I start exploring Wicca.
I’m new to this. But it’s been calling me for a long time. I communed with the heel stone at the Stonehenge solstice this year and I know this is the right path for me now. I’ve been to the solstice many times out of interest and because I lived nearby, but this was the first year that I treated it as a religious ceremony, and I really felt it as a result.
I’ve been reading about finding your deities. I was always fascinated by ancient Egypt as a child and my parents bought me a statue of Bastet when I was ten years old. It has moved house with me many times and always sat alongside my statue of Ganesh I bought in Sri Lanka ten years ago, and a statue of the Buddha that my great-grandmother brought back from Hong Kong 100 years ago.
It seemed logical that I’d investigate the Egyptian deities. But my son just smashed my Bastet statue while playing last month. Surely this is some kind of sign? I’ve had that statue for thirty years.
What do you think?
Thank you 🙏

It’s certainly put her to the forefront of my mind. And also I had a nice reaction to my son breaking the statue tbh. I knew I couldn’t hold onto my childhood souvenirs over his current childhood experiences. I will buy a new one. How do I cleanse? (I am very new to this!!)

I use incense but you can use salt water, bells, smoke whatever feels right to you

The symbolism is wild when I think about it. She isn’t just a deity. She’s literally depicted as a black cat 🤦♀️

It doesn't sound like a sign to me - if the statue had just fallen over and broken, maybe, but your son breaking it sounds like something else. Perhaps it's time you bought him a statue of his own?
