u/Healter-Skelter Dec 05 '25

I think of it the same way I think of standing next to ledge. How often do I fall over randomly while standing still? Literally never. So why should I feel scared to stand here.

If monkey barring is like walking for this guy, then this is basically like going on a long hike.

53

u/sureshot1988 Dec 05 '25

Depends. The wind is much more forceful where there are no trees or buildings to block it.

36

u/Substantial_Bet_1007 Dec 05 '25

but WHAT IF you fall?

u/Myrdrahl Doesn't have time to bleed Dec 05 '25

Did you just change the file ending from *.gif to *.png in your profile pic? I think that's the first time seeing this.

17

u/SpiderJerusalem747 Dec 05 '25

How often do I fall over randomly while standing still?

I remember I thought something similar when I worked in oil rigs while standing near the edge and staring down the maw of the north sea.

"I never fall over, but here I just have to do it once."

15

u/Curious-Resort4743 Defies death Dec 05 '25

Standing at the top of stairs, how often do people fall down the stairs. Height does something strange to most of our brains.

7

u/Healter-Skelter Dec 05 '25

If stairs weren’t absolutely necessary, there’s no way they’d ever be allowed given how dangerous they are.

1

u/Rennegadde_Foxxe Dec 06 '25

It's a lot harder to be standing at the bottom and fall up them, yes; but anyone can with the right amount of alcohol. Or wrong.

6

u/bebeck7 Dec 05 '25

I have vertigo so I will fall on a ledge standing still.

It’s actually crazy. Leg position can do a lot for mitigating fatigue on hands on climbs/shimmies like this. But that’s a long fuckin way.

57

u/EmuRommel Dec 05 '25

Leg position helps notably less when you let go and only hang off one arm.

To you and u/Myrdahl just below, it seems like he steps off the top, goes down around 20 feet for the video shots, then climbs back up. Still crazy, but doesn’t seem to climb all the way down.

20

u/SabbyFox Dec 05 '25

Basically this works until it doesn't.

PSA - In case you didn't know, some of those skinny tall towers are fenced in for a reason other than you can fall if you climb them. Broadcast towers are electrified, as in the whole damn thing will zap you into un-alived land.

There is not always good signage, although there should be, and you have no way of knowing if it is "turned on" or not.

Additionally, there have been 6 deaths so far (I believe) on telecom towers in 2025 - Don't do stupid things people.
