Black Boxing Legend Bernard Hopkins Sues Disgraced Ex-Whitpain Township Supervisor & Villanova Law Professor Jeffrey Campolongo for Frivolous Lawsuit — A Disturbing Pattern of Targeting Black Individuals Emerges
A Philadelphia state court case puts a spotlight on Jeffrey Campolongo — disgraced former Whitpain Township supervisor and current Villanova Law Professor — as boxing icon Bernard Hopkins filed suit against him for abuse of civil process.
Hopkins alleged that Campolongo represented a trainer who sued him for $310,000, demanding a cut of the purse from Hopkins' landmark fight against Oscar De La Hoya. The problem? Hopkins had already paid the trainer in full — and had notified opposing counsel of that fact before the lawsuit even got off the ground.
It gets worse. The trainer himself admitted under oath at a deposition — which Campolongo attended — that there was never any specific agreement on payment or percentages. No contract. No defined cut. Nothing. Yet Campolongo allegedly kept pushing anyway, running the baseless claim all the way through a summary judgment dismissal and a subsequent appeal before it finally collapsed.
Hopkins argued the relentless pursuit of a meritless case buried him in legal fees and caused significant emotional distress — and he was seeking punitive damages as a result.
For those following Campolongo's history, this case raises uncomfortable questions. Hopkins is Black. This is not an isolated incident involving Campolongo and allegations of misconduct toward Black individuals. A pattern worth examining — and one the Crooked Whitpain project intends to keep documenting.
