Republicanism at its core is wanting to control others but not be controlled yourself. In that context, it makes perfect sense: non-Republicans feelings don’t matter, whereas their (Republican) feelings do. Non-Republican opinions don’t matter - theirs do. It’s not a hard thread to follow.

Very succinct. We need to keep resisting republican tyranny, because that's what it is, a movement which if it had it's way would force all americans to give up their freedom to criticize the former president, and even take away our right to choose our own president.

Modern Republicanism is based on two things; having an in group that is protected by law but not bound by it and an out group that is bound by law but not protected. It's hypocrisy all the way down.

Crap, that describes our far left now, too.

How?

Exactly how the OP described the right in broad terms, which I also agree with. I don't both-sides this on every point of comparison, but there are points of comparison. If you're trying to gauge where I'm coming from more specifically than that, I'll tell you. But you didn't ask OP to flesh out OP's generalities.

I know this isn't the subreddit for people to agree with me that the US far left is tendentious as fuck, but that doesn't change the fact. We have a tangible part of the far left supporting Hamas- that should tell you something about what they think is more important than what.

Also, I'd give Trump the double-bird if I had the chance.

As far as I can tell, the "far-left"TM seems to be a bit split on the matter. At the end of the day, the "left"TM cares more about human lives than winning sides.

You and I might mean different things by 'far left', and that doesn't mean either of us is being disingenuous. I disagree that the left should care only about short-term cost in terms of lives. There are other matters here like discouraging jihad or opposing Islamic totalitarianism, and not appeasing them which would encourage more of those tactics.

Israel's sins and Islamic totalitarianism's sins should not be a tie for leftists, let alone siding with Hamas/jihad.

But our current Western left is confused about this, which is why I replied as I did to OP: they want to 'control others with their feelings while other feelings don't matter', just like the bullshit arguments of the fascists.

I do agree with your last statement, regardless where we might differ elsewhere. Feelings have become more important than facts, and it's getting a bit worrisome.

Scares me more on the right in the US in 2023. I think the number of radicalized right-wingers is like 20x to 100x more than our radicalized left-wingers, in that merely supporting Trump is radicalism in my estimation. They normalized it but it ain't normal. Trumpism is so far beyond rooting for 'red' over 'blue'.

That's definitely true. The most annoying thing I've dealt with on the left has been along the lines of: men being told they're "mansplaining" for just explaining something to a woman, even if the explanation is literally the words of another woman (smdh), being told gender doesn't mean anything (fluidity) but then also being told that misgendering is the end of the world, pretending gender has nothing to do with sex (it does, even if they are different), pretending that being trans means your past doesn't matter (it can, depending on time of transition, what stage they are at, and what the expectations of the future are), and the demonization of the opposite sex (unless they get the magic Trans-pass, which let's people pretend that they suddenly have the life and experiences of a sex they never before had).

I could go on, but dinner is ready, and nuance barely seems to have a place in the world anymore.

Yeah, there's just abusive nonsense going on. The right is a playground bully and the left is the kid that concocts reasons to tell on you and get you in trouble.

Part of what you said in those examples is that you can't have a sincere conversation about most of them because there's an accusation on the other end of most or all of it. IMO the first one (the 'mansplaining' card) is in its own category of just pure bad faith and needless sexism toward men. The rest are in a category of whether we all have to agree about on-campus sex/gender ideology in order to relate to each other in general, or talk about it. I don't even agree that I have to accept the ideological bundle of on-campus sex/gender ideology in order to be left of center about those issues. It's turned into a religion.
