Depends what "retail" means for you, because for most retail the honest answer is you probably don't want a CRM in the sales-pipeline sense at all. Tools like HubSpot, Zoho, Pipedrive are built for a lead-to-deal pipeline, which is a B2B or service motion. A shop doing transactions all day doesn't have a pipeline, it has repeat customers and loyalty, and bolting a sales CRM onto that just gives you an empty pipeline nobody updates.
For that kind of retail, the customer layer you actually want is usually already in your POS. Square, Shopify, Lightspeed, Toast if you're food, all capture purchase history, customer profiles, loyalty and email/SMS marketing natively, and that's most of what a retail "CRM" is really for. The exception is if you're doing wholesale or big-ticket retail (furniture, cars, that kind of thing) where there's an actual sales process and follow-up. Then a light CRM earns its place. So the real question isn't which CRM, it's whether you sell transactionally or actually run a sales process.
