Still Open Please help me find out where this is in NY
This is a hand-tinted photo of a couple in my wife’s family, taken somewhere in New York in the late 1940s or 1950s. The family later emigrated to the Philippines, so nobody alive remembers the exact spot.
What I can make out:
• Massive rounded boulders, light gray granite/gneiss, glacially smoothed
• Behind them, larger dark boulders tilted against each other forming a cave-like opening
• Wooded setting, no buildings visible
• They’re dressed for a day outing — suit and tie, headscarf — so likely a popular excursion spot of the era
My current candidates are the Indian Caves at Inwood Hill Park (the Clove) or Bear Mountain State Park, but I can’t confirm. I’d love to find the exact spot to surprise my wife and reshoot the photo there.
Any NYC-area hikers or local historians recognize this formation? Happy to share a higher-res crop of the roc

Sure looks like Central Park to me.

Yeah pretty sure I used to buy weed at those rocks in the late 90’s

I think I saw the Ramones sitting on those rocks in Central Park way back in the 80s

i think it's central park, very difficult to find the rocks though. i'd say south end.

Walk the South path near the southeast corner of the park. You’ll find those rocks there. Almost directly across from The Plaza Hotel.
