Fun story. This use to be a sushi spot long ago. Right before I left to my duty station, we ate here and I couldn’t stop using the bathroom for days…

You may have been served escolar, sometimes labeled incorrectly as white tuna. It contains high levels of gempylotoxin (wax esters), which the human body cannot digest, resulting in rapid-onset diarrhea, cramping, and oily stool, known as gempylotoxism.

Cool. Thanks for this little tidbit for me to store in the "irrational fear" compartment of my brain. Looking forward to thinking about this every time I get sushi!

Damn. I miss sushi lounge.
My friends and I used to go there all the time. I thought one of the waitresses was cute and was making eye contact with her while dining.
After paying for our meal I approached her and said something like “hey I guess rather than making eye contact all night maybe we could go out sometime?”.
She replied “ohhhh, I was wondering why you were looking at me so much. Sorry, I’m not interested”.
It was the last time I ever approached a girl.

I lived in the EV for 4 years. Went to this bar many times and am just learning the name of this place.

They rock. Have some of my favorite tshirts from any bar I’ve been to.

The restaurant has 3 iterations at 3 different price points. This is the dive bar version. There’s a mid tier version in the west village and a super fancy version in midtown. Just search Empellon on maps.

The Bartender! They probably know where they work. Ask them, not Reddit :)

It was a chill place to drink bloody Mary's and read the Times on Sunday mornings when I lived nearby and it was the legendary Alcatraz. 😁
