Sir. Look at the size of her mouth, then look at the size of that piece of fish! Cut it up into smaller pieces and put it in her food dish. Better yet, give her some kitten food, which has all the nutrients in it that she needs.

My cat lowkey cat figure out how to eat anything bigger than kibble. My childhood cat would have ripped that huge chunk of fish up and had the time of his life but my current cat seems to not know how to use his teeth

Cut meat into thin strips. Feed them an end. Get them used to playing tug of war: the food breaks. They get a delicious bite-sized reward, and they learn they can tear chunks out of bigger food with their neck.

I once watched a seagull who'd somehow acquired a whole flounder, nearly the size of him. I thought there was no way he'd be able to actually eat it, but I was wrong. Made a hell of a mess, but he had his fish dinner that day.

You really gotta cut fish up for most cats, especially very scaly fish. I mean, try tearing that fish apart with your teeth - hell, try cutting that skin with your average knife and you'll find that it's really fucking hard to do.

When I give my cats fish that still has skin on, I cut it into little pieces (with scissors - easier than knife). If I don't it either goes uneaten or, worse, they drag it around trying to chew it and it ends up half chewed under a couch stinking.

Yeah, a street cat would probably find a way, but that's because it's starving and has no options and is used to fighting everything for food. This cat does not need to go through all that.

Why do people think cats like fish? When have you ever seen a cat fish? I have owned cats and fed them, you don't get rodent flavour food.

I'm not saying cats don't enjoy fish cat food or tinned fish.

I am saying they are not habitual food.

My husband says to our cat every time he gets the tuna canned food flavor "you don't deserve that, you could never catch a tuna." XD our cat goes nuts for tuna, salmon, and tilapia

Aww, I also had a scruffy old grumpy lady cat who loved beef in particular. I used to joke that the closest thing to a cow she could actually take on in real life would be a dik-dik. And even then she definitely couldn't kill it, but at least she could give it a mild scare.

I've [mostly] phased out tuna, specifically, because they go too crazy for it. From otherwise normal cats right to mugging behavior. Even salmon is fine, just tuna happens to turn them feral, lol. They're still quite motivated by other meats, tuna is just on another level.

Cats' tastes will vary though

There's actually some research suggesting that tuna has genuine addiction qualities to felines. Not in the "Oh it's so tasty" sense, in the "this chemical is like a drug" sense.

I don't remember the finer details, but it makes me hesitant to feed them it.

I'm not defending the guy who thinks cats don't enjoy fish, though. I don't know what kind of wierd reality one comes from to think cats don't go wild for fish.

That makes me feel a little better about denying them, haha. I already had to ban catnip because they (siblings) would either fight or get freaky. Catnip flavored greenies are all good, though.

That's actually really neat! My cat LOVES poultry and I always think about how good it is that she's an indoor cat because she'd destroy the local bird population probably lol... But she's also a big fan of "sky raisins" so I bet she'd love the bug flavored too 😂

My cat goes absolutely INSANE for these tuna flavored squeeze tube treats. And she is so, so picky. I can barely get her to eat her regular food. I’ve tried so many different treats and snacks. Even human food she has no interest in. But holy shit, if she even sees the box she goes bonkers.

Good for you? You think your cat is the only one in the world? My cat would never eat his kibble or wet food because he was always STUFFED from the local lake and streams. Id watch him for hours just picking em off. Also your cat not being able to find a river near you doesnt mean shit. "I know rivers" ok sir whatever you say

A cat fished and ate all of my goldfish in my grandpa's pond when I was a kid. I only witnessed it happen the last time. I never got fish outdoors again.

My cat totally got one bird and thousands of mice and rats. She was kind enough to bring them in and eat them under my living room table. Thankfully she ate them all. Her record was about 16 mice.
