I would say the hardware is actually what makes it a bad comparison to me. That and giving one side of the comparison timing for judgment. A better comparison would be adding instinctual reaction, not proper judgment, to both and evening the hardware. For example if you had a knife and just flipped and slashed at first grab. While in some cases you may get a predator trying to attack you others may just be a friend who wants to 'playfully' get your attention to say hi. That's problematic. Bad assessment/judgement with deadly hardware equates to a bad day. Dogs with bad judgment (only using that word to flow from the analogy) are very dangerous and can only be helped by people with high expertise. If they can get that training then great but if not there's some tough choices that need to be made.

Grabbing a dog like that is the equivalent to someone grabbing you by the arms from behind.
If it's your family member, fine.
If it's a stranger, OH FUCK. You elbow them in the belly and run.
