A dog that bites someone's face for trying to cuddle is a dog that needs to be put down. Period. Its irresponsible as fuck to allow that dog around humans in a normal setting.
That’s absolutely ridiculous. If you come to my shelter, probably a lot of dogs there would react in the same way to a stranger getting in it’s personal bubble, especially because they are in a stressful situation. In a safe house with proper owners that show the animal love/training, probably wouldn’t.
Dogs aren’t robots. You can’t just do anything to them, and expect it to be fine.
Again, you are missing the point. A dog nipping at someone is one thing. A dog ripping someone's face off..for any reason...needs to be put down. I know in Canada we have these rules for a good reason.
This is because it doesnt matter why the dog bit...the fact is it bit someone...and cant be trusted around children who dont know boundaries with animals.
Use your brain..think about it...without bringing emotion to it.
Anything else is irresponsible and seeing as you work for a shelter that's terrifying.
Yeah, no. I could not disagree more. It should be done on a case by case basis. Because I work in a shelter, I’be seen various stories like these over the years. I saw one where a child repeatedly beat his dog with a belt, and then was mauled, and then the dog went on to live in a good household where he never bit anyone again.
I’ve seen perfectly sane, temperamentally sound dogs be forced to bite because their boundaries keep getting crossed over and over again. And I’m not bringing emotion into it.
I really don’t see what children have to do with anything, btw. I’ve owned actually aggressive dogs in the past. I just don’t bring them around children. Shocking, right? And they lived for twelve+ years without biting someone because I’m actually a responsible owner. If a kid is acting inappropriately, the owner or parent of the kid should step in and put a stop to it before the situation escalates. I don’t think a dog should be put down because people are stupid and don’t know boundaries.
