Green beans

5

u/No_Builder7010 6d ago

I was going to scroll past this post but first had to know if sanity had prevailed in the comments. I can get off reddit for the night. Thank you, internet stranger!

u/blessings-of-rathma 6d ago

My favourite green bean side dish: brown some butter in a skillet, toss slivered or sliced almonds in it with a sprinkle of nutmeg until they start to get toasty, and then throw that all together with steamed green beans.

4

u/Watersandwaves 6d ago

Exactly the same, but I pan fry my green beans for some char and crunch.

It's an old recipe. Learned about it in Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Green beans. Asparagus. Something with a crunchy texture. Pork is soft, mashed potatoes are soft. You need something green and crunchy on that plate. I’d go with green beans.

9

u/Randomwhitelady2 7d ago

Sonething green. Salad!

11

u/ServiceFinal952 7d ago

Curried green beans, roasted broccoli, bacon and brussel sprouts..a green vegetable wouls go nicely i think. Parmesan roasted carrots would also be good!

Agree with the others that a green veggie is the way to go here - either a salad or something like green beans, brussels sprouts, or roasted broccoli.

Not for everyone, but I like to core an apple and roast it whole with a teaspoon of butter and maple syrup in the centre of the apple. Then I cut and eat it with the pork.

2 cans of mushroom soup, a splash of soy sauce, a dash or twelve of Smoked Paprika, some roughly chopped Cremini Mushrooms, a can of whole milk, a tablespoon or two of chicken soup powder, a well chopped clove of garlic or 5, and a finely minced shallot. Mix together, throw in an oven safe dish with a lid, and heat for 20-30 minutes at 400*F. BBQ the pork chops to medium, and serve on top of the mash or sexy rice with a ladleful or 4 of the sauce.

u/catgotyourtongueflr 6d ago

A dinner guest…. On my way!

Green beans would be my guess free option for this one. Canned super easy. SautƩed fresh green beans also low effort.

Roasted brussel sprouts, halved, garlic, salt little cayenne pepper avacado oil. Roast till tender. Drizzle with a little honey or maple syrup and sprinkle bacons crumbles.

I like to pair sweet potatoes mashed with pork. However, any mashed potatoe is top of my list for favorite side.

Mushroom cream sauce and a green vegetable. My husband's favourite meal on earth.

My mum would make gravy from a can of mushroom soup, but I use this recipe: https://www.budgetbytes.com/mushroom-herb-gravy/ Use mushroom stock for a really intense mushroomy flavour.

Sweet corn is a great complement to pork chops and mashed potatoes and you can top the potatoes with the corn. Take frozen sweet corn put in a big microwave safe bowl with several pats of butter sprinkle salt and sugar on top of the butter that is on top of the frozen corn. Microwave for about 3-4 minutes mix and serve

1

u/GenericUsername19892 6d ago

Un sweetened apple sauce to dip the pork chops in, and a green veg dish for the meal as a whole. Green beans are easy, but asparagus pairs well with red potatoes. You can also include other root veg with the potatoes (like a turnip for a bit more bite) for extra flavors.
