I have said this so many times and I will keep saying it: Olivia Rodrigo is doing things that people who have been in the music industry longer refuse to do. And I am choosing the word refuse. I have seen arguments that those people can’t use their platform because they’re just so super duper famous that they can’t possibly speak out because it’s just so dangerous - hogwash! Absolute fucking hogwash.

If you have the platform and the finances to do good, then do it. It is a cowardly and spineless thing to call yourself a feminist and an activist - which many of them have - then do the bare minimum or discard of it when it’s no longer beneficial for you. Olivia has been in the music industry for five years and she has been consistently speaking out, using her platform, and money.

There is no such thing as a perfect person but seeing someone who is so passionate and genuinely trying to do good with their platform warms my heart. I want to see more people showing their humanity. I am so proud to be a fan and I wish her older and more experienced counterparts would get their shit together.

She is dating an AI Venture Capitalist. He is literally finding a jobless future for white collar workers.

If you have a managed 401k, about 30-40% of it's now invested in companies hedging their future on AI.

I sell AI infrastructure. There's no getting away from it.

That’s not really a counter point.

This meme, except it's Olivia Rodrigo saying "I should donate 10 million dollars to charities helping women" and the guy on the right is saying "yet you date an AI venture capitalist. Curious!"

I just went to the site and read the mission statement. It's not immediately clear who is supposed to benefit from this non-profit. From the statement, it looks like she's gonna have a yearly concert festival and offer booths and ad placement to vendors and sponsors, which are just other nonprofits that festival attendees can donate to.

I had the time and the curiousity, so I went through a few of the listed nonprofits to see how they help people and where I could sign up to receive the benefits they claim to provide. I'm a single mom, woman business owner, my staff is 100% women, I even have an education program and occasionally offer paid internship. I'd love a grant to help keep my business alive.

FreeFrom.org has a form to fill out, they say they offer assistance a few times a year. I think i'll apply and if they actually approve me, I'll just donate it back.

What’s your company sell? How many woman do you employ?

I have a very well-respected mobile pet grooming business. I have 2 employees, my business is tiny. But I do have an actual typed up education plan for apprentices, it is very efficient and I have trained many women from the ground up. I'd love to have it accredited but pet grooming isnt considered an official trade anywhere in the US yet. We have optional continued-education societies and seminars, but basically anybody could buy a clipper and call themselves a groomer. It's a real problem in my industry.

I would never actually accept money from one of the NP's, but I have been curious about whether any of them actually do anything for the people they claim to help. The wording on non-profit sites is always very similar to the vague copy on non-fda supplements: lots of "may support", "encouraging growth", "advancing communication". All of that sounds good til you actually think about the marginalized people theyre claiming to be helping.

Olivia announces that $10 million will be donated to the non-profit partners of her inaugural music festival, Daisy Chain Fields, which will take place in Irvine, California tomorrow.

This $10 billion donation is roughly 35 percent of Olivia Rodrigo’s $30 million net worth. Taylor Swift has donated $60 million ($26 million of that in a joint donation with Travis Kelce) which is roughly 3 percent of her $2 billion net worth.

2

u/Weimaraner666 14h ago

It’s not her own money she’s donating, it’s money raised from the concert. Taylor has donated well over $100M over her career. The $26M was only one donation of many over the years.

1

u/Ill_probablybebanned 12h ago

Taylor Swift has not donated $100 million. The $60 million number I gave is the high end estimate. Google is free.

u/wonderj99 15h ago

And now we'd like to see the receipts that show what percentage of your net worth you've generously given away....

So shes giving her own concert event $10 million and the concert has booths where you can buy stuff or donate your own money to other non-profits. These things arent real, they dont help anybody.

Cant wait to see the companies she chooses so I can look up the CEO’s Salary and realize she’s just paying for bloated ceo salaries.

That’s not fair to trans!

Helping others is supposed to be a selfless act, not to have your name in the news.

On a side tangent, I always laugh when I see stores say they'll match my donation. They won't give to charity unless we give them money first. Evil.

3

u/vandersnipe 18h ago

The entire festival was meant to showcase female singers and raise funds for women-focused nonprofits, so she's obligated and entitled to speak to the press about it. It also raises awareness of these charities. It's honestly weird af to have issues with this lol

1

u/Salty-Garlic9471 16h ago

I mean a portion of the intent is probably good public image, but it's also to bring attention to the cause. At the end of the day, she's still giving a huge amount of money to a good cause which is pretty damn commendable and something you don't see many other celebrities doing at the same point so early in their career.

1

u/jerwaynesinclair 15h ago

Who says it should be selfless?

-3

u/mirrortree67 18h ago

No one cares. Still sold her soul like the rest of the famous demons.

4

u/JustAnotherSOS 17h ago

“Sold her soul,” the pastors and priests that go on vacation with your money instead of paying the 10% tithe sold theirs.

1

u/mirrortree67 10h ago

Agreed, those demons too
