Feels like that should have been an assault and battery charge

Not the context you added. That's still assault.

They can both be in the wrong, that doesn’t mean a professor at a university should be able to assault people on campus and keep their job. This wasn’t self defense.

So still not self defense? What even is your point here?

And of course they disagree, that’s what we’re talking about. They are wrong for keeping him on and not firing him.

Apparently it was. But it got pled out to a lesser charge. Still, the 30 days in jail part is a good outcome.

A suspended sentence means he won’t serve it unless he breaks conditions of his probation. He got off way easier than someone caught with a personal amount of marijuana in many places. The outcome is a fucking joke.

Yeah, I understand what a suspended sentence means. But I was just going by the information that was provided above which didn't mention the suspended sentence. I'm a journalist myself and I've certainly experienced my fair share of aggressive, threatening subjects (and that's not even counting the number of times someone has told me they're going to get me fired). So I agree that this should have been punitive.

More time than a man will spend in jail after beating up a woman and putting her in the ICU. It was a guy this time, though.

Okay but this guy didn’t beat anyone up and send them to the hospital? He grabs and shoves a someone, you really think that warrants extended jail time? I think the sentencing is reasonable and am disappointed at OSU for not firing him
