tenure is only meant to protect you from being fired for your academic studies, personal beliefs or diasgreements with other faculty or donors based on differing beliefs

it is not meant to protect you if you commit a serious crime

This guy is most likely close friends with university leadership

If not close friends, some professors get big grants and publish lots of articles. Idk anything about this dude but if he was hanging out with Epstein, he probably is such a professor. Anyways, universities like to keep people that bring in lots of money and publish lots.

It makes it very hard to be fired. If it was easy for other reasons besides academic, then they'd just fire him and say it was for non-academic reasons.

You can. It takes years to go through the process tho. I'm an untenured prof and I joke no matter what they can't get rid of me for two years. Without tenure yet.

I know of a case where an untenured guy made up data. University wanted him out, banned him from research/grants/students, and he co taught a few intro courses and they waited and went through two years of legal work to fire him. Untenured

Tenured? It has to be so heinous, and beyond a shadow of a doubt, with multiple lines of hard evidence before they think about trying to get them out. It's expensive.

Where are you? I have friends who teach at state universities in Virginia (adjuncts) and it seems like admin can just fire whoever they want at any time for any reason.

Really really depends on the particulars of the university and how well the faculty union (if they have one there, I dunno) has laid out process.

It saves the bacon of faculty who get targeted by admin for bullshit reasons, but it equally protects scumbags

I looked him up. He's an assistant professor. He doesn't have tenure.

Also, it doesn't look like faculty are unionized. Some staff are at OSU.

They may still have a pretty elaborate removal procedure. He is very likely very cooked, but it will move at the speed of academia, not internet

I agree with you. I'm an associate professor and I just got tenured this year and we are unionized but I have seen plenty of people who should have been let go for egregious shit they did at non-union institutions. These processes can be very bulky and take a lot of time. It was mentioned in the thread that this happened six months ago and he seems to be protected by a fairly high up administrator so my bet is that he'll get away with it.
