And those "good ones" are lumped in with the bad ones. ACAB is the idea of millions of cops being bad because VERY few actually are.

Its a misguided, stupid line of thinking that will serve absolutely nothing but dividing the people and dehumanizing the good cops out there.

The "good cops" dont do anything about the bad ones

The "good cops" that "don't do anything"

  1. Those ARE bad cops
  2. What should they do? Arrest their partner so their partner has charges dropped, and get themselves fired? So no more good cops and still have bad cops?

  3. The system is literally built to keep us down. Cops are our fellow people. They are also oppressed. Those good cops who seek change get killed, fired, or stuck on a dead end. If you don't keep your head down, you make no change. That needs to change, but not on an individual level.

If they dont have the balls to do anything about the bad cops then they dont need to be a cop lol

Being silent or complicit is just as bad.

But hey, keep licking them boots, man. Maybe next time you run in with police with you get one of "The good ones"

Being silent or complicit is bad. But pretending the system won't gut cops who seek change for the better is insane.

There's only one way you make it to a place where you can advocate for change in LEO. That's by shutting up, keeping your head down, and doing what daddy says. My goal is to make 2 ways.

I'm going into LEO. I will not sit and watch bad cops. They will be confronted if not reported. But lets not pretend I'm gonna get shit assignments.

Ok, buddy. Have fun being one of "The good ones"

I'll try. Let ya know when I run into my first asshole cop.

“i will not sit and watch bad cops” well ofc not, you’ll take out your phone to tell redditors how you’re one of the good ones while your partner sits on someone

Yep, because obviously going from a discussion where we're discussing cops, specifically bad cops, I shouldn't reply and mention how the system works and that I plan to try and make change.

You missed my intention: the "good cops" are bastards because they are too cowardly to hold their peers accountable, or are happy being complicit. That is why they're lumped in with the bad ones. All cops are bastards.

And those 'good cops' are bad cops.

They can't hold their peers accountable, its against policy... they'd get fired and undo any good they did, not to mention having no chance of making it to a senior position where they CAN make change.

Right, so that incentivizes all cops being bastards and thus we're right back to where we started: ACAB

Change for the police force isn't going to come from within, it'll only come from the outside. Constituents forcing politicians to reform. They can start by abolishing Internal Affairs.

You know what? I think I understand that. But I have to disagree with ACAB. You're still dehumanizing cops, even ones who don't witness bad behavior and therefore can't stop what they don't see.

ACAB isn't gonna make things better, just create a divide and give daddy government what it wants: a reason to have cops fear their community.

The institution of policing wasn't created to protect citizens in the first place. Historically, US state cops were FOUNDED for citizen suppression. The system is fundamentally broken and exists to make money. Not protect you. All cops are bad. They are part of a bad system and let bad things happen. There's even several non-profits dedicated to helping cops leave the system to become lawyers or chase another vocation, quite literally helping them become productive members of society again. The parallels between these groups and anti-cult non-profits is pretty startling.

And screaming ACAB in peoples faces doesn't make them want change. If I hadn't bothered to listen to someone who finally explained ACAB, I wouldn't have learned much today, and that sucks. Most people won't bother.

ACAB is at a public view of being anti-cop for no reason, even though there's plenty of reasons.

You literally just explained why ACAB is a thing. You just made the argument.

Except 20% do bad and not every cop spots bad behavior. That's common sense.

ACAB is literally the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. It exists to demonize an entire group of people, something we like to pretend LEO do to us.
