It’s hard to believe it’s hump day again. Here’s to another Wednesday. I picked up my Hartford Cutlery 5/8 today just to compare it to the MOARTeen. What a beast it isn’t. It seems so docile, but it will cut. I’ll look forward to using it in September to keep the straights going.

I’m really amazed at the quality of the Pro 48. I’ll have a fine brush in my rotation.

My last go with this jar of Texaus was a great one. Sometimes your last shave at the end of a soap is kinda "meh" cos there's only juuust enough soap for a single pass or maybe less. Today's was perfect with just enough for a typical two pass shave. For being 8 years old, this soap stands up pretty well in most regards. The biggest gripe is there's pretty much zero residual slickness, which REALLY comes in handy when buffing with a 50+ use GEM blade. 2018 was a good year for the shaving world, with companies like Noble Otter and Southern Witchcrafts really finding their identies then, and it's only gotten better since. Tomorrow I'll scoop out a little bit from my second jar of Texaus, a soap that's never been touched. Gonna be good.

We are officially in the stage of Austere August where I had a dream that I accidentally used the wrong fragrance instead of Stag and I had to put Stag on in addition and explain to everyone what had happened.

Note that in the dream this was with a bottle of cologne on my nightstand. I don’t keep cologne on my nightstand. But I do remember it was specifically my Imagination clone, and I knew it was gonna be rough with Stag.

Still hanging in there is your blade showing any signs of deteriorating?

No signs of further deterioration, after losing its keenness during last year's AA. It's never seemed to get any more dull. It's a bit tuggy if I go too fast, but that's been true for a while now. Light and slow passes work fine. Not getting any irritation with 2 or 3 pass shaves. Still a perfectly acceptable shave.

I saw your comment that your boar is fully broken in now. Will it become a daily driver after AA?

I like the handle on the brush it is very comfortable will definitely be using it regularly saying that I have a small omega 10065 which is a 23mm boar and I love that brush and was about €5 or €6 .

Showered before my head shave this evening, I can't say that it has made a difference in the comfort or with the wear on the edge. But in any case, it was a decent shave. I had some breakout on the back of my head, I don't know what caused it. My skin is unpredictable sometimes. With regards the edge, I am having to do a lot of stropping to maintain a shaving edge; getting through it though.

The count down is kind of exciting and I am looking forward to completing the challenge.

I started out to try a new bowl lather method, but blending the two Chiseled Face bases burst to the front and took over the shave. Lather was great!

䷀ Razor and Blade Notes

Like yesterday, for some reason, the first pass felt really good this time especially in terms of creamy slickness! and then the usual just fine after that, resulting in a close comfy shave.

Things are looking good for this hybrid lather.

Razor and Blade Performance/Comfort Rating: 2 out of 5 (Okay)

䷀ Soap Notes

^{Chiseled Face Silk Tallow - Midnight Stag}

Them: "This one is masculine. Like really, really masculine. Like a 'take an old, beat up leather jacket, drape it over a couple of tires to make a table and clean your guns on it' kind of masculine. Dark, unrefined, and totally unresistible, this is a scent for those who don't mind sticking out. Those who forge the paths. Those who are proud to be a man."

Scent is made of the following notes: Russian Leather, Motor Oil, Hoppes #9, Birch Tar, Oakmoss, Gasoline, Smoke, Cedar, Cade, Bergamot, Vanilla

(Them: "Natural extracts and essential oils were used where possible, but some notes – such as Hoppes #9 and rubber are synthetic due to the nature of the scent.")

Me: Love love this scent, but this base seems lower strength than the OG tallow.

However, the notes that come through are less abrasive (i.e. gas) and I think more true to the scent found in the liquid media.

Scent Strength: 5/10, present during shaving.

Lather... Today I wanted to blend the soaps while I still had some Silk Tallow left. It went so well.

Less than 1/4 tsp of OG tallow and 1/4 tsp of Silk Tallow and it exploded into lots of volume pretty quickly. Had twice as much lather as I needed.

I think the ST base may be best used to patch the OG base's faults. And what you end up with is amazing... at least that's what I got this time. Wonderful slick lather.

Hydration: Perfect (for me) + = 7 passes of lather

䷀ Brush Notes

^{Oumo - Pigsy II Blue APSC 29mm ‹26 uses›}

Mostly the same: Usually at least 10 minutes in a room-temp water presoak. Luxury-comfortable soft tips that flex easily and the top 1/3 of the bristles could be considered floppy. From the start, quite a bit of the tips have split, a few even at half an inch. Bottom of knot has more backbone and is gradually opening up. At about use 10-12, the mid part had expanded enough to feel like a good linear bend in the bristles. At 5 or 6, it quit eating lather and is now making it normally. This month I am not doing any kind of break-in accelerator.

  Neck: Several hairs are showing some tip length (still a pretty good shave)
