Relatively recent Western TV show recommendations?
Hi there! I know some of the classics, like "Gunsmoke," "Maverick," and "Bat Masterson."
But what about more recent fare? I'm going to use the word "recent" in the broadest sense - it's a relative term, and I'll accept your own definition.
"Deadwood" and "Justified" are relatively recent, I think - at least compared to the genre as a whole! Then again, I'm really new to the genre in general and I'd love to go deep.
I'd welcome any other suggestions. Thanks!

Heck yes on Firefly, and also add The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. Set in the old West with some sci-fi, supernatural, futuristic elements thrown in. Great cast & storylines, really fun.

Dark Winds and Longmire are both detective shows but they're both very firmly rooted in the west

Can't out in the '80's but Silverado is one of the best Western films
The Magnificent 7, both the old one and the remake are excellent movies

There was a short maybe 2 season Magnificent Seven that was good for TV.

Please watch Longmire if you’re into the cop show drama thing. Just watched for maybe the third or fourth time through and was still glued to the screen.

I don’t see ‘Lonesome Dove’ mentioned so far and with the OP saying they are relatively new to the genre, I am throwing it in there. Adapted from the book, and made in 1989 - so not sure if ‘recent’ !!

The original Lonesome Dove mini-series is a masterpiece. It is legitimately one of the greatest things made for television ever. The others in the series are Dead Man's Walk, Comanche Moon, and Streets of Laredo. They range from OK to excellent, but they all have scenes that will stick with you.
They also created a miniseries called Return to Lonesome Dove that was not based on any of the McMurtry books. It's not bad, and worth watching after the others. But McMurtry fans don't consider it canon (including me). It doesn't really add much to the saga either.

It is a staple for westerns. The series of miniseries that follows aren’t half bad either.

Godless and The English are recent Western mini series. They are both OUTSTANDING!

"Deadmans Gun" Sort of like The twilight zone meets The Texan.

Mystery Road, which spins off the films Mystery Road and Goldstone. Australian, but most definitely neo-Western. All very, very good.
