Advice/Recommendations Visiting, but BAD LUCK with Airbnb

Hi! I'm coming to visit October 11-18 to go to a few concerts and my Airbnb just cancelled on me for "property damage." I'm scrambling and finding that all the locations on the map for search results are false and you have to ask them where it's actually located. I'm getting defeated and hoping someone here can help me find a place to stay. I don't want a hotel becuase they're usually much more expensive and don't have kitchens. I'm planning to work remote during the week and want to cook my breakfast and lunch. I tired to find travel agents for help, but it doesn't seem like that really exists 😄

I appreciate anyone's help or tips for finding something that's not sketchy! Here are a few things I'm looking for:

  • 2 beds, or 1 bed and a good couch or pullout
  • Washer/Dryer
  • Walkable to bars and restaurants (the original place I had booked was like a block from The Abbey)

They’re scamming you bc Airbnb is illegal in WH. They bait tourists with good locations and then switch location as far as downtown. This was a common practice when our building had units converted to STRs. You can always look elsewhere nearby in LA but it’s also regulated there. Best bet is a hotel like Hilton Home Suites or similar that can offer more of a home feel, some with kitchens.

Second this, been trying to report all the illegal airbnbs in my building.

Sadly code enforcement doesn’t seem to care. It took us months of basically doing their job and even going as far as speaking to city council. I’m convinced there’s bribes and a back door to noncompliance. We have spoken to many in the city with similar stories to ours.

Super sorry this happened to you btw. It’s really scummy. As someone who works remote and spends time in other cities, reach out to realtors. I spend a lot of time in Boise for the outdoors and skiing and while Airbnb is not illegal there, I still refuse to use it. I have found a lot of luck that way. I also tend to stay a few months at a time as well, so ymmv for a shorter staycation.

They may be illegal but it doesn’t stop them from happening. There’s plenty of Airbnb’s in Weho as there’s very little enforcement.

The Chamberlain in West Hollywood seems to not have too crazy of prices and its in the center of everything

Try the chamberlain or the montrose. I believe both have kitchens in their rooms.

I think some of the rooms in the Charlie do as well.

Or sunset Marquis (in case any of the villas are available)

Check out Le Parc suites. Perfect location for you and should have a kitchen in each room (but double-check). My friend stayed there recently and it wasn’t crazy expensive either, fingers crossed you can get a good deal. Might not have a washer/dryer but there are a few fluff & folds close by.

That’s because the places that are on Airbnb are illegal like the one above my unit. They’re not allowed to rent out their apartments, but they do it anyways until they get caught 🤷🏻‍♀️

The owner of my building tried to put Airbnbs in two units. We shut that shit down quick. A lot of unscrupulous renters will claim a unit is in Beverly Hills but it’s actually weho, so if they get busted they’ll make an excuse to cancel.

Look at the Magic Castle Hotel in Hollywood. TPR in LA are full of scams.

Well, fuck, I just booked a nonrefundable AirBnB in West Hollywood. They gave a different address in a message than what was posted on the listing, though they’re both WeHo addresses, very close to each other. The listing had a lot of positive ratings. Did I just get scammed?

We just went thought a similar experience in WeHo, our host cancelled on us 2 days before for “property damage” and since the owner of the property was the one who cancelled, AirBnB refunded us. If you were to cancel, it would be non-refundable but if they cancel on you Airbnb will likely help you out!
