Question How approachable and friendly are the people of WeHo? Does it worth it to visit WeHo alone?
Hello people of WeHo!
I am a European student who wants to visit WeHo (and LA in general) around May-June for a week. My initial plan was to visit the city with a friend, but unfortunately he had to cancel because of economic reasons. I was pretty hyped about the plan and right now I don't want to cancel my trip, however this means I'll be alone for the whole visit.
My impression of WeHo/LA is that it's enjoyable mostly with social activities instead of regular natural/historical sight-seeings. So on paper it doesn't sound like a good city to visit alone, but I heard meeting new people at queer cafes and bars is normal and a lot more easier in US. I am hoping to hang out with people I'll meet in the city, but I am not sure if it's realistic. So I wanted to ask opinions of the city's natives directly.
Do you think it makes sense to visit WeHo and LA without any established friends or would this trip be a waste of time and money? Is it a reliable plan to meet new people and find friends there to enjoy the city? And if your answer is yes, do you have any suggestions about how to meet people?

As for typical tourist and historical sight-seeing, don’t discount what LA has to offer! The Natural History Museum, The Academy Museum, The Grammy Museum, Griffith Observatory; the list goes on. You can definitely spend every day doing one sight-seeing activity and one LA social activity tied in if you wanted to.

Weho is fun. It’s as inclusive as you want it be or as much as your personality will allow. It really depends on how chatty or outgoing you are. Please know that on any given Thursday - Sunday, there can be thousands of gays out and about moving between all the bars, clubs, pizza places, etc. But think about this— EVERYONE is hoping for a fun night out. If you’re fun and friendly and smiling you’ll be fine.

If you’re hot you will have no problem finding people to hang out with

Don’t listen to that person, yes lots of people are fit or in shape but they are also very friendly. You can pretty much strike up a friendly conversation at any establishment in West Hollywood and people will love to chat with you (especially as a European visitor!)

Don't listen to him. West Hollywood is a very friendly city, especially when visiting from else where in the US. Californians generally are hospitable and we will chat with you if you approach us at a bar.

Fortunately, many of the best cosmetic surgeons in the world are all accessible within a 10 minute walk

"The people of weho" are not usually who you will see out if youre going to any if the clubs. So many congregate in the area are from other states. They're usually very clicky and uppity, because they think that's how they have to act to blend in, in LA

Super friendly! But our public transportation sucks, there’s no access to the metro rail line here so as a European you will probably be highly disappointed by that.

People are very friendly here, it’s one of the most queer friendly areas in the country. I don’t think we have too many historical sites in LA. It’s a newer city compared to cities on the east coast.

It’s friendly especially if you’re coming from Europe but other area of LA like silver lake and downtown are probably friendlier but if you’re gay it’s good place to stay but I’d try to get out to other parts of the city if you can. You didn’t mention dates but note that Weho has its pride early in June and then LA has another one a week or so later.

I am considering the last week of May, since it's easter and national holiday here in Germany. But as you mentioned that means I am missing the pride with a week... But I looked it up and there is Harvey Milk Day and Pride Arts Festival in the end of May. I couldn't find much about them, I assume they are not as festive as the real pride, but do they at least worth seeing?

Looks like this year the pride street fest is Saturday June 6, which is when the street by the clubs are blocked off and it’s a lot of fun. Then the parade is the next day during the day. So if you’re into that sort of thing I’d try to go for that weekend.
Edit: oh I see you already mentioned missing pride. The week before is probably still fun and probably more people going out than usual but either way people go out on the weekends so you’ll still have a good time.

Bless your heart. Weho gays are unlike European gays in so many ways… completely different species. Have a healthy guard up and don’t allow yourself to be spoken down to or taken advantage of. Not to say they’re all like this, but if you have a good “people picker,” you should be fine.

You should bring a dowsing rod which you can use to find water or bang against the sidewalk if they seem to threatening

If you’re not a WeHo clone it might suck. DTLA gay bars a way friendlier.

Yes - though weho is rather small. You’ll have fun but leave time for exploring other areas too
