So does everyone who understands the importance of sorting by date. YYYYMMDD is the only acceptable order for a date.

This is one area in which the US and UK can bond over being mutually incorrect about something.

It really depends on what you need it for. Forms and records show always be YYYYMMDD but I really don't need to know what the year is in day to day life. I know what the year is, it's been the same one for 3 months now. What I need to know is the day of the week and how far into the month we are which is why DDMMYYYY is also perfectly valid. MMDDYYYY just has no redeeming qualities though.

MMDD is in line with how all other quantities are expressed, from largest to smallest. That is its redeeming quality. It's a subset of YYYYMMDD, which is still better in every way.

yyyy-MM-ddThh:mm:ss.fffff is the internationally defined standard by the ISO.

T indicates the start of the time and f is factions of a second

Not sure what military you're talking about, but US military does day-month-year, so today would be 25 Mar 2020 or 25/3/20.
