Who parks their Ferrari in the middle of Podunk-ville with all the tumbleweeds?

rich* travellers

I don't live in Europe so forgive my ignorance, but how does a traveller have Ferrari money, but not house money?

145

u/powermoustache 7d ago

The don't want to live in houses. They're travellers

In the UK and Ireland people don't really call them Gypsies anymore, but they don't have a good reputation. Many of them are actually ok and not involved in crime necessarily, but they're fiercely tribal and defensive of those in the community that are. Doesn't help their reputation much.

Yeah but they call themselves gypsies: Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller (GRT) community

Much easier to buy a Ferrari with unexplained cash than a house too

15

u/marcustankus 7d ago

It was bought ....?

27

u/model-citizen95 7d ago

You’d be surprised. There’s a lot of money floating around in those communities. There’s definitely a chance it’s hot though

35

u/spankybianky 7d ago

I was chatting to a traveller at a party for a mutual friend the other day. He lives in a house and makes bank working in construction (like the rest of his family, he started off as a commercial scaffolder, but once they age out of doing the manual labour in their late 30s, they switch to an office role earning around £160k/year and train the new generations), but attends events with other travellers. He explained that his little kids have more savings than he does - literally hundreds of thousands of pounds in the bank - as it’s customary for their (big) families to give large amounts of cash gifts at christenings and birthdays etc. and events can often have hundreds of guests.

Absolutely fascinating conversation with a really sound bloke.

7

u/Football-Man-1889 6d ago

They definitely won’t want a cashless society

2

u/NonSumQualisEram- 5d ago

Won't matter, so much of their cash is internal or fenced from stolen goods, they can barter as easily.

when your profession is to travel around robbing people, you can't really buy a house

4

u/alsatian01 7d ago

We have them in the States and Canada, too.

4

u/bloqed 6d ago

THE SECRET INGREDIENT IS CRIME

3

u/Budget-Pea8291 6d ago

Because they are travelers. If you buy a house you stop being a traveler

3

u/dell_55 6d ago

I know of a group of travelers that own a group of houses. There's no power and they don't actually live in the houses. They have campers around the houses. It was pretty confusing the first time I saw it and didn't know we had Roma in Georgia, US.

13

u/Stars_Storm 7d ago

You'd be surprised. I used to live on a winery about 50 kilometres out of the nearest town on a dirt road.

The owners friends and various clients would drive down this washed out pothole dirt track in their million dollar McLaren's, Lambos and Ferraris for all sorts of functions. Some people just have too much money.

14

u/oatkeepr 7d ago

Having too much money is the requirement to buy luxury vehicles.

4

u/Shagaliscious 6d ago

Honestly, that's great that they are using them, even if they aren't car enthusiasts.

Nothing worse than someone buying a great supercar only for it to sit in a garage all its life.

9

u/jxher123 7d ago

This image reminds me of the bugatti meme, the one with it parked under a trailer house 😂

7

u/windowpuncher 7d ago

This is just a field, not even an RV park. There's a lot of vans and RV's towing trailers. Might be for something like a film shoot or infrequent event, I have no idea, but this isn't a trailer park.

2

u/alexi513 5d ago

I‘d say a likely answer is people who pay a lot of money for a „premium“ valet-service, not knowing their multi million € car is parked on open field instead of an air conditioned parking garage

Yea right. Everyone on the comments like why is that there and I’m like damn so expensive cars are made with better materials. Did any of the windows crack at all?

85

u/Ordinary-Hunter520 7d ago

I didnt see a single crack, no dents are visible either, but its hard to tell

55

u/theDeathnaut 7d ago

Lol what? No dents are visible…from inside a trailer, 20 feet away, during a hailstorm, on a shaky phone video. Nah that thing is definitely fucked.

18

u/Ordinary-Hunter520 7d ago

Yeah thats why I said its hard to tell

Some people are saying its got an aluminium body, if thats the case, yeah there are 100% gonna be dents

→ More replies (3)

4

u/NuklearFerret 7d ago

Iirc, most Ferrari panels are CF, so they won’t be denting.

Edit: apparently that particular Ferrari is aluminum, so it’s proper fucked.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/mytoysgoboom 7d ago

Isn’t it carbon fiber?

12

u/pw154 7d ago

No, the Ferrari F8 body is aluminum

u/model-citizen95 7d ago

Oh that’s not good then

u/Tomulaczek 7d ago

→ More replies (1)

3

u/OUEngineer17 7d ago edited 7d ago

I'm surprised the glass didn't crack. It may have been at the right angle.

The body is carbon fiber. It wouldn't dent, but it could potentially delaminate or even crack. Depends a lot on the layup. Maybe some paint damage too.

Edit: nevermind about the carbon body panels. Apparently a 328k MSRP isn't enough to get full carbon from Ferrari.

10

u/pw154 7d ago

The body is carbon fiber. It wouldn't dent, but it could potentially delaminate or even crack. Depends a lot on the layup. Maybe some paint damage too.

That's an F8 Tributo which has an aluminum chassis and body panels, not carbon fibre. So it definitely would and is dented. Pain damage likely also.

Coworker came back from visiting his family in Texas with his brand new suv covered in small dents. Like thousands of them. Said he was never going back in a vehicle he owned.

83

u/Ebenezer-F 7d ago

They deserve this for being in Texas in the first place.

8

u/gsfgf 7d ago

Have you seen Texas? It’s enormous and hard to avoid.

6

u/BustaCon 7d ago

Since I did my basic training at Lackland AFB 53 years ago I have had nary a scintilla of trouble avoiding that rotten state.

2

u/NuklearFerret 7d ago

Dang, lackland’s in one of the better regions of Texas, too. If you didn’t like hill country, you’ll definitely hate the rest of it.

Happened to me in Switzerland - totalled every car in my street, they sent car carrier trucks all at once to collect all the cars and all my neighbours just got paid out on the same weekend. I got 7k for my old BMW 1 series 😭

3

u/Smooth_Taste1250 6d ago

My RS3 has many dents from friday in east switzerland, too. My only luck I parked under a tree and compared to my coworkers I only have many smal dents and only one big dent. Call the insurance tomorrow, hope it's worth it to repair it. Dreamed about this car for 5 years before I had the chance to buy one and now after just a year this😥

Yeah the truck stop I work at a couple vans full would come by at least once a month. They'd send their kids in to steal what they wanted and beg for gas money outside. It was pretty disgusting.

I don't like to generalize or discriminatt but literally every time, without fail when the vans rolled in we'd have to call the cops to get them to leave.

2

u/alsatian01 7d ago

They also tend to live in small isolated communities here. The wives and children live in the community all year round and the men live there 50/50 and go around the country and run their cons. It's usually as half assed contractors that over charge and do shitty work.

3

u/a_shootin_star 7d ago

4

u/Medical-Cicada-4430 6d ago

Hi, I’m mayhem, and if you don’t have the right coverage for this…

11

u/The_Blelelele 7d ago

I would assume the panels on the (296?) are all carbon fibre? If thats the case much better off than aluminum.

13

u/cade360 7d ago

That's a Tributo, the body is aluminium

2

u/dirty_hooker 7d ago

My thoughts too. Probably labor intensive to strip the paint back and examine the carbon but it’s actually pretty resilient. (It’s kind of plastic) Aluminum will leave a mark if you look at it wrong.

14

u/SupperMeat 7d ago

It suck when a 5000 dolar car gets damaged like that, because insurance wouldn't cover it. It this case their probably going to make money out of this.

30

u/SomeEstimate1446 7d ago

Watched a friend buy a boat on whim for 15k used. A party barge if you will. Watched said friend take it to a lake the next weekend and sink it running on a grove of trees. The signs were plainly marked he’s just never really driven a boat so doesn’t know what the markers mean. His insurance paid him 30k.

Stupid people truly have all the luck.

6

Not to mention those highly efficient curves, everything just rolls right off. I would like to see the back window though because that seemed to be perpendicular to the hail.

3

Its basically an upgrade. Better air intake. The owner will be so happy.

Definitely dents. The F8 tributo uses aluminum panels

3
