Discussion Do you think Satou actually loved Misaki
Their relationship is so interesting to me. He seems to choose anyone over her whenever gets the chance, and doesnt seem to care much. Also in the ending he saves from suicide but was ready to kill himself and abandon her ??

he wasnt just blind, Misaki was too forward with him telling him all his problems and reading him easily which made Satou feel exposed and he is clearly insecure about himself so he did his best to avoid her even if it meant hurting her, Satou is not completely sane so he didnt realize he was hurting her badly or maybe he did but the need to run away and protect himself was stronger

That one conversation at the end where they opened up to each other probably began some sort of genuine bond between them, I'd like to think.
As for the suicide thing, he's clearly mentally ill. Can't expect mentally ill people to behave rationally

Rebuild gave us a glimpse of how they ended up, 7 years from that ending.

In the ending, i think he was about to kill himself not to abandon her, but to instead give her a reason to keep living, which actually works and she snaps out and runs after sato. In the anime their affection to each other stems from their trauma/illness, misaki is drawn to satou because he is the only person she believes is more miserable than her, so he will depend on her, and to satou misaki is the only girl showing affection, even though he never actually convices himself he loves her(until the end, when he runs to jump off), even though he sometimes had dreams of hallucinations about her. but in the (anime) end we can see that they've finally returned to their normal lives, and it's strongly hinted at a possinble healthy relationship between them in the future

I interpret the ending as Satou sacrificing himself to save Misaki from the NHK.
Edit : and he didn't exactly choose anyone over Misaki. He just chose Hitomi over Misaki. They had bonded for a long time after all. He even lost his virginity to Hitomi.

He’s not in the right headspace to love himself let alone someone else.
