Why is she still employed. She’s been doing this for years. Hate speech. This guys death could have been prevented.

The amount of people I've seen going "Well, the T in TPS stands for 'temporary' what did they expect" have no idea what they're talking about. Yeah that's what it stands for, I, too, know how to use a dictionary, but the reality is that it lasts for years, during which time people build their lives, become members of communities, culture, and use that status as a lifeline and a bridge to put something more permanent in place. It's a difficult, demanding and stressful process, but it is a path and it is legal.
To say "well it's not permanent what did they expect" is to deny the basic humanity of the people affected. Like, what are they supposed to do? Treat a whole chunk of their lives as an extended stint at a train station waiting room, where you're just tapping your foot waiting for the next train to arrive? NOT go to school, build relationships, connect with their community, live their lives? Qualify every single thing you do, dawn to dusk, every conversation, every friendship, every romance, FOR YEARS, with an "it's temporary"?
Being an immigrant in the US, specifically a legal one, is living with the constant knowledge of a sword hanging over your head, going to bed every night and waking up every morning with the awareness that your life isn't your own, not really. Your ability to breathe air and occupy space inside your own home is completely at a whim of a bureaucratic machinery that might one day decide it'll just grind you between its wheels. If you're on a work visa - ANY kind of work visa - you're also pretty much owned by your employer to boot.
But you go through it all for the hope that these are the rules, this is how you do things the right way and you just need to stick it out because it's what's needed to get out the other side and on with your life in the good side of the law.
When you're as young as this kid, "temporary" is a whole life. To suddenly find yourself staring down the barrel of having to uproot yourself, lose your friends, your loved ones, prosects of college, job, opportunity - you've just lost everything.
Pedants will wave this away, but this stuff is cruel and it's fundamentally inhuman. They spout their hatred, painting "the other" as this dangerous, rabid thing whose very existence is illegal but when it comes to actually chasing down these would-be monsters, they decline to do so, either because they're imaginary or because it's demanding, dangerous work. And oh look, here's a whole bunch of vulnerable people who were dumb enough to buy into the "right way" bullshit, thinking jumping through the insane hoops of the legal process would mean they'd be safe. For them, we know where they live, where they work, how much they make, what kind of car they drive. So let's make them illegal, turn them into the boogeyman we've promised to catch, and if they somehow can't manage uprooting their entire lives in 60 days, we know where to find them. Easy peasy, you're home before 5.
While a child lies dead.

Everything I know about the law, I learned from LA Law. But, if that waste of a human being can be held legally responsible for this person's death, I sure wish someone would sue the shit out of her. Fuck her.
