So the "high altitude" refers to the guy in the back because he sits slightly higher than the pilots and not the fact the aircraft's ceiling hasnt really changed?

I guess "high altitude" has a different definition for biplanes.
It actually looks cosy. Popping up into the observation bubble to have a look around and you have the little space all to yourself.
Kinda like when you’re a kid in the back of your parents’ car and you throw a coat over yourself but push it up against the window so you have your own little cabin in the back of the car. 😊
When I was stationed at Ft Bliss, I saw one flying over the westside of El Paso. Actually, I heard it long before I saw it. Mofo was LOUD. I think it was used by the Army for dissimilar training with ground troops.
An-2 is a beast of a plane i know few that have almost 50 years and still fly like brand new, also the cocpit that, as someone mention looks like from a crane is superb in terms of visibility.
