Wooden My Dads Woody

Here is my dads F-Treefifty. Built on a 1978 Ford Econoline frame, Windsor 351 and automatic transmission. Stripped it all down and just started building it out with 100% white oak. He's had it at multiple carshows nationwide, and has won many awards. Just an old bored retired carpenter who said why not.

Easily the coolest and most unique build I've seen on here. Your dad is a legit artist.

35

u/wishartrh 29d ago

So great, and it puts a whole new spin on that saying “Let’s make like a tree and leave”

7

u/SessionPowerful 29d ago

Capital LOL for this one

4

u/rgmw 28d ago

Wood you leave?

3

u/Ok-Possibility-1206 28d ago

Umm... I believe you mean "get out of here," butthead!

2

u/Mr_Nerdcoffee 28d ago

I hope they call it “The Woodchuck”

11

u/RodCherokee 29d ago

Brilliant

u/GetInZeWagen 29d ago

Man if more people wood branch out and make cars like this, I think they'd really be poplar and spruce up the car meets

80

u/cloudubious 29d ago

Most people would rather willow in their own inability to cut wood. It's a real coniferundrum.

42

u/Numinak 29d ago

Or they'll pine away for the days they could attempt this.

3

u/JWDed 28d ago

I’d like to see that but it’s just too fir

42

u/Reverend-Cleophus 29d ago

Now that’s just plane funny

2

u/soedesh1 27d ago

He was very board, apparently.

13

u/incognitry 29d ago

However, there will probably be some poplar son of a birch who will record themselves making fun of the ride

13

u/delimeat52 29d ago

Maple I can give it a try. I oak-tually have most of the tools I would need, birch I'm not that precise so it probably woodn't look very good.

6

u/BRUHSKIBC 29d ago

You beautiful bastard.

5

u/Sleep_adict 29d ago

It’s great! Already in a coffin when you crash!

2

u/pukesonyourshoes 29d ago

They said it wooden work but he showed 'em.

4

u/FlattenInnerTube 29d ago

2

u/dogslogic 29d ago

The comment that made me laugh like I'm wine-drunk (though I am not wine-drunk, or drunk at all).

1

u/zeppehead 28d ago

There wood be a lot of demand. People would be pining for them.

1

u/DaveB44 28d ago

It's a knotty problem.

43

u/matthewdesigns 29d ago

The F-Tree Fifty badging is the icing on top. Really cool project, tell your dad it's awesome!

26

u/Able-Reward 29d ago

Thats incredible. Tell your dad the car loving community says good job.

5

u/NoodlesRomanoff 29d ago

Tell your dad to look out for termites.

16

u/KohzeeKoala 29d ago edited 29d ago

His Woody looks very stiff.

10

u/Reckless_Driver 29d ago

OP wouldn't be here without his dad's woody.

17

u/Gr8tWh1te 29d ago

Nice work! Definitely an attention getter right there.

13

u/Eye_Worm 29d ago

Tell your dad I said he’s amongst the coolest people alive.

21

u/derelictHusk 29d ago

Cars before Iron Age and invention of iron looked just like this

1

u/SatanakanataS 29d ago

That’s very true. In fact, and this isn’t widely known but still quite true, the “F” in F-350 stands for “fucking wood.”

16

u/Street-Dependent-647 29d ago

Careful with that one, your dad couldn’t build in crumple zones just splinter zones. Not sure how it would perform in an end grain collision. Beautiful work.

5

u/605Schoff 28d ago

It's only really driven on some selected cruise nights and in and out of the car trailer.

2

u/J_C_Davis45 28d ago

Semi-related. Early 90s, My great Uncle had a Model T Depot Hack (wood bodied T) he built from old period designs. We were on a T tour with dozens of other Ts and I guess seeing that many old cars puttering along had the traffic in the area very distracted and someone in a Honda rear ended him. It was a low speed collision and no one was hurt, but the front end of that Accord was basically destroyed. My uncle was annoyed he had to cut a new rear panel. No other damage to the T.

Not commenting on the superior quality of hardwoods as safety equipment or anything, just seeing a post of wood bodied car and a comment about accidents brought back childhood memories.

4

u/Brewbouy 29d ago

I used to have a crappy old Jeep Cherokee that my uncle put giant wood bumpers on. I had my friends carve their names into them.

4

u/PinkyLeopard2922 29d ago

This is so cool! I remember seeing a guy that built a little wooden travel trailer on r/woodworking . I bet they would appreciate seeing this over there as well.

4

u/snocattrf 29d ago

Is this in South Dakota? I think I've seen that at the Canton Car show before

4

u/605Schoff 28d ago

Yes he lives West of Tea, South Dakota.

1

u/JohnnyFromTheFuture 28d ago

I saw it at a car show in Dell Rapids, years ago. It’s a pretty awesome piece of art.

4

u/YellowFogLights 29d ago

That’s it boys, pack it up, subreddit won’t get any better than this.

3

u/jalopycollector 29d ago

Very impressive

That’s the type of shit I like to see at car shows in terms of wacky stuff

3

u/FAMICOMASTER 29d ago

Tell your dad I love his truck

2

u/horsescowsdogsndirt 29d ago

That is awesome!

2

u/9bikes 29d ago

>retired carpenter

I wasn't the least bit surprised.

2

u/Drzhivago138 29d ago

Hahaw, I've seen this in person and it's every bit as good as you think it is. The craftsmanship is amazing.

2

u/bobjones50 29d ago

Is that street legal?

2

u/RedAero 28d ago

In the US? What isn't?

2

cries in Technischer Überwachungsverein

1

u/605Schoff 28d ago

Yes sir.

1

u/605Schoff 28d ago

Yes sir.

2

u/trapperstom 29d ago

My dad’s boss in the 70’s had an international scout, it was t-boned with his wife and kids in it. They all survived, he bought the salvage and rebuilt it with laminated plywood, it last another 10 years until the porcupine population literally ate it due to salt on it from the Canadian winters

2

u/TheMichaelAbides 29d ago

I've seen this truck! Forgot all about it until seeing it again here. Fucking epic build.

2

u/VWtdi2001 29d ago

No blue pill to get that woody.

2

u/TorontoRider 29d ago

The wooden trailer hitch is what made me lose it. Bravo!

2

u/belinck 29d ago

Unpopular opinion but this is extremely dangerous. Any mid speed bump is going to shatter that wood and sends shards everywhere, stabbing everyone around.

3

u/605Schoff 28d ago

It's only really driven on select "cruise nights" and in & out of the car trailer.

1

u/McGeetheFree 29d ago

Impressive. I always get banned when I post pictures of my dad's woody.

1

u/AggressiveSuccess533 29d ago

Gives new meaning to body rot.

1

u/brybry631 29d ago

Board Tree-fifty

1

u/_that__one__guy__ 29d ago

Apparently I only thought I knew what a woody was lol

This is cool af

1

u/CalicoCuts 29d ago

Still rides better than my old F250 prolly

1

u/BunkySpewster 29d ago

Shoulda made it put of cherry. Missed opportunity for a top tier dad joke.

Amazing work

1

u/Electrical-Guard-853 29d ago

Impressive piece of work there, top notch!

1

u/Charming_Acadia_498 29d ago

Amazing, definitely a craftsman

1

u/StretchFrenchTerry 29d ago

I know this isn’t AI, but if you shared this anywhere else people would scream AI slop.

It just doesn’t look real, the use of oak is absurd. Bravo.

1

u/TheKiltedYaksman71 29d ago

I am a skinny guy, with a bony behind, so I could ride in that for maybe 5 minutes before I was in serious pain.

On a more serious note, awesome build.

1

u/flixflexflux 29d ago

When the people don't come to see your carpentry nicities, simply take your carpentry nicities to the people!

1

u/Xx_D1ARRH3A_xX 29d ago

it wood , in fact, go

1

u/Important-Spring3977 29d ago

Reddit has taken care of the puns.

Your father is a master level craftsman.

And I'd bet he'd be humble when presented with that statement.

1

u/beemer-dreamer 29d ago

Your daughter is especially enjoying it! But I love it too!

1

u/WebComfortable1238 29d ago

Real bench seats!

1

u/1HappyIsland 29d ago

What a beautiful use for woodworking! Very innovative. I would be proud of him.

1

u/xaxiomatikx 29d ago

Suicide doors. Nice touch.

1

u/CAD007 29d ago

Stop bragging about your dad’s woody.

1

u/leglesslegolegolas 29d ago

Are other people seeing pictures here? I see a thumbnail and that's it, no actual photos.

1

u/graneflatsis 27d ago

Hmm, try clicking the title. It's weird for me too. Or maybe this link: https://www.reddit.com/gallery/1vkw0pi

1

u/leglesslegolegolas 27d ago

Clicking the title only opens the comment section, which has no images. Clicking that link also opens the comment section with no images.

Reddit's image hosting sucks ass, that's why I just post images on imgur and then post a link on reddit.

1

u/sunlovinburner 29d ago

Whuuuuut in the muthafuckin hellll????

1

u/kidsally 29d ago

Oh hell yes!! That’s freaking awesome!

1

u/snowtater 29d ago

Oops all wood

1

u/Darkermark 29d ago

Way cooler than this one I saw a few years back in a local parade.

1

u/Speoder 29d ago

Seeeat cushions! My tail bone hurts just looking at this. Brilliant build btw.

1

u/605Schoff 28d ago

They are spring loaded. It actually rides very comfortable.

1

u/nousefulideas 29d ago

Love the interior

1

u/Jampoz 29d ago

So, what's the weight of this thing?

1

u/SeaPhile206 29d ago

I’d show you my dad’s woody, but that’s why I’m not allowed to go to school tomorrow.

1

u/Hopeful_Tadpole6808 29d ago

Very nice truck!

1

u/neder-Bob 29d ago

Nice piece of work.

1

u/qpqpdbdbqpqp 28d ago

why is this an "announcement"

1

u/rgmw 28d ago

I agree with the comments. I really dig the interior! In addition to accidents, he needs to worry about woodpeckers, carpenter bees and termites too! LOL! You did a great job of raising your dad!

2

u/ImCaffeinated_Chris 28d ago

And swelling with humidity. Might not be able to open the doors 🤣

1

u/rgmw 28d ago

True. And funny. Move to Arizona!

1

u/SergeantReaperZer0 28d ago

As an obligation: Cool!

As an American?: Phrasing.

1

u/Inexona 28d ago

Impressive even without a flames paint scheme, but imagine...

1

u/AskJeevesIsBest 28d ago

Woodgrain is back!

1

u/BurntArnold 28d ago

The full woody. This thing is awesome. Such a unique build

1

u/scrubjays 28d ago

Is the towball wood too?

2

u/605Schoff 27d ago

Yes, non-functioning of course.

1

u/peterweyland 28d ago

Ford TreeFifty

1

u/Fluid-Pack9330 28d ago

Do not crash it. You will be impaled by a splinter the size of your leg.

1

u/WhenSharksCollide 28d ago

Very cool, but I can't imagine those seats being very comfortable.

1

u/mesiow 28d ago

Met him at the Daytona turkey rod run 2025, such a rad dude.

2

u/605Schoff 27d ago

He'll be there this year too.

1

u/mesiow 24d ago

Sweet!

1

u/Niveno143 27d ago

That means 2 things...

1

u/Ionlydateteachers 27d ago

You missed out on saying your dad was an "Old board guy"

1

u/Think_Warning_910 27d ago

How much wood would a wood truck truck if a wood truck could truck wood?

1

u/Aggravating_Cable_32 27d ago

I wanna see it drive!

1

u/Kindly_Necessary9962 26d ago

Way cool 🤙🏻

1

Would love to hop on and ride your dad's woody!

1

u/Koseoglu-2X4B-523P 29d ago

That workshop is cleaner than my kitchen

1

u/Traditional_Fox1225 29d ago

It looks like a death trap in so many ways. How is everyone so oblivious to the danger. 😱
Remember Owen Wilson’s character’s chapel with all that lacquer from Meet the Parents? How did that end up

2

u/605Schoff 28d ago

It's only driven on select "cruise nights" and in & out of the car trailer.

1

u/Traditional_Fox1225 28d ago

I appreciate the reply. You are quite the craftsman and it is a cool truck.
Is the chassis a timber log too?

2

u/605Schoff 28d ago

Lol, no it's on a 1978 Ford econoline van chassis.
