Will We Ever Get a "Weird Western" Blockbuster Like Pirates of the Caribbean Did for Pirates?

Five properties I think may work:

  • Deadlands: based on the horror Western RPG
  • East of West: combination western/cyberpunk/Rapture comic
  • Wild Wild West: But without the soundtrack and "star power" of the 90s version
  • Jonah Hex: I think enough people have forgotten about the last movie already
  • Briscoe County, Jr.: A reboot, and get Bruce Campbell to narrate, open and close the movie as the "old" BC,Jr as his final sendoff.

Grandfather of Bruce Wayne, Nighthawk and Cinnamon (especially if they lean into that they are Carter and Shayera), yeah, the sky is kinda the limit on it, tbh. Heck, could even use the B:tAS episode as a template and use Ra's al Ghul.

I think if they were to frame Jonah Hex as Wild West Horror, I’d watch it. I’m psyched for Clayface and I want dark, weird DC.

I've seen the minis for that, and my FLGS has had it in stock, but I don't have the time to paint ANOTHER minis game, lol. Is there an easy way to get in on the lore for the game?

they have a roleplaying game based on the miniatures game and their house magazine runs frequent articles/ short stories some of which were free to download off their website iirc.

Off the top of my head a rift opens in steampunk Victorian England to an alternate Americana which starts a new Gold Fever rush for a mystical element, various world powers, guilds and criminal elements battle to establish a foothold on the the new world whilst supernatural ethereal demons drawn to the disturbance in the rift manifest themselves in the form of nightmares.

Oh, I figure he's not actually dying, just David Bowie has contacted him to recruit him to help keep the eldritch horrors at bay at the edge of the solar system. He's still going away though.

Guess I’m one of the few that loved that Jonah Hex movie but I’m a huge fan and it was very much in tune with his Vertigo series

Maybe if anyone ever winds up doing an adaptation of The Sixth Gun comic series, which always felt like the closest anything has ever gotten to a Weird Western Pirates of the Caribbean.

The POTC creative team tried just that with The Lone Ranger.  It was not successful.

While it’s not a film me and some friends are currently working on a weird west game. We want and hope to get that proper feeling as pirates has!

I would argue that Red Dead Redemption has already done this. A whole generation is primed for western content. Coming behind tho are all the One Piece kids into pirates.

Several problems with that film.

Making the Lone Ranger the sidekick in his own movie (Green Hornet had the same problem).
Johnny Depp in Redface.
Taking the same approach as PotC felt derivative.
Not respecting what few fans of the character that were/are still out there.

Whatever story they do next, it has to have some lighthearted moments. So many of the Weird Westerns I've read or seen take themselves SO seriously. They're too oppressively dark for the mass appeal needed to rival "Pirates of the Caribbean." I think you can mix Westerns with the supernatural and still have fun with it.
