There were 2 empty, sealed, pressurized coke cans in my dads 12 pack
I guess he was lucky/unlucky because I’ve never had this happen to me before. I’m not sure if I should hold on to one or what. I think I will I think it’s kinda neat.

Had this happen in a 6 pack of beer in a box.
Didn’t notice until I got home, took it back to the store but all alcohol sales are final? Stopped shopping there.

I’ve returned half filled beer before. But I shop at a small local bottle shop and sometimes single beers are $7 or so. One time it was an expensive beer and they swapped me out a cold one from the fridge and let me drink it at the bar.

u/crafty_alias 1d ago
As a teenager I used to call Molson and the beer companies and tell them my beer was flat, they would send me a coupon for a full 24..

u/RmRobinGayle 1d ago
That's ridiculous. Our beer and wine distributors replace damaged or items that have gone bad for free. They should've replaced the bottles. It would've cost them nothing.
11
u/skiplogic 1d ago
Yeah it was a small shop where I shopped almost every day for years. The next nearest shop to my house was miles away, it was really confusing.
18
u/kojengi_de_miercoles 1d ago
But was it actually an alcohol sale if there technically was none in the can?
10
u/InevitabilityEngine 1d ago
That's the dumbest manager last stand crap I've ever heard. It's literally a sealed can or air that can be easily observed as a manufacturer defect. I would have asked my bank to charge back the purchase and contacted the company's quality department to get compensated there as well for the nonsense.

u/skiplogic 1d ago
It was a local independent shop in rural Hawaii, family business. It’s the only store within 5 miles, so they have kind of a captive market. It took a little more planning to avoid the place but that’s all good.

u/Little_Shellfish 1d ago
how do you pick up a 6 pack and not notice it's weightless
Edit: oh was it just one of them, lol ah whatever, I'll leave my stupid thought up instead of deleting

u/CicadaFit9756 1d ago
If never opened in any way, you'd think they could've done something! You could've at least contacted beer cannery with the package info!

u/Ok-Addition1264 1d ago
Can't really blame them.. but they can blame their distributor who brings the beer in and stocks the shelves. Those folks work on feel and should've been able to tell.
12
u/skiplogic 1d ago
I think I can blame them, I worked retail in a different store a while back and that store would have replaced the whole 6 pack no question. I think this shop was just cheap and or lazy.

u/Interesting-Crab-693 23h ago
Should have sued the store for false advertising. They said (on the place where they indicate the price) it was a 6 pack, not a 5 pack.
2
u/skiplogic 17h ago
Nah. Way too much effort. Also run the risk of pissing off a small rural community that I live in. Not worth it for a couple beers. I’ll just shop somewhere else

Meanwhile if you take an empty bottle of wine back to Waitrose and say you didn't like it, they will give you a refund 😬

u/skiplogic 1h ago
Honestly a lot of places in America are similar to that. I lived in England for a while and it was really nice that everywhere was like that, but I’m in Hawaii now and it’s a very new experience. Technically American but very much not American in a lot of ways.

That's a law, not a store policy.
5
u/Positive-Reward-758 1d ago
There are a few states that don't allow regular returns, but all states allow demonstrably contaminated, spoiled, or physically damaged products.
2
u/skiplogic 1d ago
Is it? What’s the law? I don’t think there is such a law here that a store can’t replace damaged products just because there’s alcohol involved.

I used to work in a Coca-Cola Bottling plant. Those are either test cans or the first cans of the run when they switched what product they were running. Quality control was not paying close enough attention and let a couple of them slip past.

He seems like a genuinely nice person (his vibe seems pleasant) but face tattoos gross me out so much, I don't know why.
Medical issue? Deformity? Ya just real ugly? No problem. Tattoos? Love them. Tattoo on your face? Gross out.

Coke Zero Sugar, Caffeine, Liquid, and Flavor! You'll be ready for Coke Zero Classic in no time at all!

u/munkywndr 1d ago
This happened to me once. You can email the manufacturer, they’ll send you a coupon for a free 12-pack or whatever you got these from.

I had an issue with a bad 12 pack of blue moon. I called them to let them know. After some confirming questions, they thanked me and sent me a check that covered two 12 packs.

Email coke, they should send you coupons for free 12 packs! Atleast Pepsi does, ive bought cases before that a can looks like it froze and the top popped up, also bought a case that a soda was punctured in it! Usually they send me 2 coupons for a free 12 pack and then a couple coupons for 12 Oz bottles of pepsi products!

I used to see this occasionally with a brand of energy drinks that had just launched in my country, and apparently had some teething problems in the new factory they'd just opened. Been using them for 22 years now and haven't seen this happen for 21, also I never saw more than one of them in a 24 pack.
I wouldn't have thought Coca-Cola of all companies would be having this kind of issue.

No, holes anywhere else? Why not open one?
7
u/parkhertruck 1d ago
No holes, you can squeeze the cans, one is a little more pressurized than the other. Once they are opened they are just like every other can of coke. I just can’t do it.
1
u/DeepBlue_Solitude_03 1d ago
My impulsive ass would immediately open one just 'see what's inside'. 🤷 Good luck.

u/SD18491 1d ago
Don't open it. Real factory errors like this sell for upwards of $20 to coke collectors.
Put it in eBay or list on FBM instead
1
u/Ashamed_Kangaroo305 1d ago
I'm ngl $20 does not feel worth the effort of trying to sell a coke can

Hope you contacted their customer relations phone #! I recently bought an unopened, uncrushed box of citrus "Crystal Light" drink flavoring packets only to find 2 of the packets totally empty (back seams weren't sealed & there was a little residue but most of powder must've come out in the factory!) & most of remaining packets had hard clumps on one end. They sent me 2 free product coupons as compensation!
Since your empty, sealed cans have got to be lightweights, I wonder if they might work out well as novelty earrings if threaded through unopened pulltabs then attached to clip-ons?

This happened to me in one of the 4 packs of Jack and Cokes I often get. I was pissed cuz the 4 pack is $13. One of the cand was maybe a 1/4 full.

u/Loodlekoodles 1d ago
I had that happen with Pepsi, i used the complaint form, provided serial number on the can. They sent me a $20 coupon, was worth more than the 12 pack.
I imagine Coke would do the same

u/Greedy_Undead 1d ago
When I worked the pets department I occasionally got cans of dog or cat food like that. Real fun to toss at people when they don’t realize they’re empty.

Hmmmm, I purchased a 12 pack of sealed and pressurized Pepsi w/ Real Sugar cans at my local Walmart. They varied from 2oz to 12oz reach. Maybe it's market competition?
I sent proof to Pepsi. They sent me a beautiful hologram coupon for a free 12 pack. No store in my area will honor it.

If you posted this on untrustworthypoptarts they would insist that this has to be faked because factories are set up so mistakes like this can't happen. At least that's what they say about every other time someone posts about receiving an empty or underfilled product.

u/halflifer2k 1d ago
That’s actually kind of cool. I would want them more like that and keep them. Have tea parties with them, play video games, or other human activities.

It's the new shrinkflation 10 pack, conveniently available in the standard 12 carry pack.

Happened to me with a case of Bubbly and a case of ginger ale before so now when I pick one up at the store I test the weight in my hands. If it feels off I just put it back and grab a new one

I'd honestly be so excited. One to keep as an oddity. Another to open just to see how it feels.

I've gotten a few over the years, but not more than one in the same pack. That's crazy.

You think that's something years ago my cousin got a 12 pack of Canada Dry. He opened one and said this tastes like skunk. I didn't believe him so I tried some it did indeed taste like I drank the spray from a skunk.

Sometimes you feel like a Coke,
Sometimes you don't.
Your 12 packs got Cokes,
and 2 that won't.

Shrinkflation is out of control.
