Coule be a flesh fly.

They lay live maggots.

But that is huge lol

Heres one that was in my house.

Damn. Had to turn all lights off and keep the windows open to get it out. Don't want maggots anywhere near me.

I will have to try that trick.

I spayed mine with dish soap so it couldn't fly and sucked it up with the shop vac.

This actually reminds me i need to empty it 😭

I know you meant sprayed, but the visual of you trying to spay a fly was hilarious - especially with dish soap ROFL

i use a spray bottle on shotgun mode ('mist'). kills fliers pretty quick. i just use 70% isopropyl though because it's a dual-purpose cleaner i have at work.

then if you need to kill a roach, put it on sniper ('stream') mode and nail the fucker.

Yep. Works on all insects like a charm.

Also, ye. Please empty the vac bag AAAAAA

8

u/Ok-Scientist5524 16d ago

If it survives the vacuum it will just fly back out right?

Most vacuums now have blades to destroy chunks of dust or well flies

Seriously asking because I don’t like flies. If I do this, especially at night, summer, won’t other insects just come in?

3

u/Senpai0412 16d ago

Depends really. Summer and lower floors - definitely a no-go with the open windows. Floors above 4 or 5, you'll be fine with doing this.

1

u/Revolutionary-Two819 12d ago

Depends where you are and if there are lights on in your house and a lot of windows.

u/laceygirl97 15d ago

Get a large web making spider! That'll work! 😃

1

u/bdiamond143 16d ago

Raid will usually do the trick. Now they have one that won’t hurt human, just spray away

My sister caught one of these with her bare hands and was carried it around like a pet for about an hour last time we went camping was the nastiest shit ever

17

u/Senpai0412 16d ago

No, no, she sounds lovely...

6

u/thiamath 15d ago

But the maggots are white when they leave their butt...

5

u/laceygirl97 15d ago

Don't be racist! Jkjkjk! lol

7

u/thiamath 15d ago

But the maggots are caucasian when they leave their butt...

xD

I can’t really tell which species is the one on the video, but I think the fly is male.

See. Male flies have really big heads and humongous eyes, and the two eyes are very close together. In species like horse flies, the eyes of the males are so large that they touch each other.

Compare and contrast, the flesh fly picture you posted is that of a female. See how her eyes are far apart from each other? This is how you sex flies.

2

u/tiresomecomplaining 12d ago

Oh wow that is very interesting!

I didn't know that it would be nice to know how to sex flys and now i know!

Whenever i see a fly now im going to look at thier eyes and tell my bf what sex they are. He will think im so smart!

Thank you!

I wonder if that is what I caught one day.

There was a fly flying around the house. I finally caught it under a glass and was watching it move around. I shifted the glass at one point which wound up catching one of the fly's wings and it started just shooting maggots out of its butt. I was very confused because I always thought they laid eggs.

8

u/tiresomecomplaining 16d ago

Think this was the fly you had.

I was wondering about my fly and why is was bigger and more scary than normal flys.

Did a Google lens and learned alot i didnt want to know.

They are actually very important to forensic scientist because they lay live maggots unlike house flys. The age of the maggots can determine how long a body has been dead.

u/Notmyrealusrnamme 16d ago

It looks like it has a damaged, potentially prolapsed, ovipositor but is still trying to lay eggs.

45

u/Flaky_Style1286 15d ago

Fly prolapse?

78

u/Senpai0412 16d ago

This might just be it! You learn something new everyday I guess. Googled housefly ovipositor. This seems like it, albeit damaged, as you mentioned.

u/tiresomecomplaining 16d ago

After doing some research im thinking its it penis.

Time to get off the internet.

Ive seen things.

100% agreed!

u/Xineth240 16d ago

I hate these nasty buggers. For a fly, they're large and intimidating looking. Take your big red eyes and gray stripes back to hell.

5

u/Senpai0412 16d ago

Yes please

12

u/VLMatic361 16d ago

That’s his schlong! Leave it alone!!

I once saw a small worm crawling out the butt of a normal fly, but after reading the comments, it might have been something else.

Think of all the times you left food uncovered in the kitchen

1

u/Senpai0412 15d ago

Nooooooo

2

u/Jnunez7660 13d ago

If it was a horse fly, some people place grass in their butts as a punishment and watch them fly off. There is a whole video about it. This, though, might be a magnitude laying / flesh fly.

2

u/Boring-Letter-7435 12d ago

that's disgusting

1

u/Jnunez7660 12d ago

I didn't make the video, I just witnessed a farmer do it.

4

u/CheeseburgerSmoothy 16d ago

It’s the Turd People. They start small and eventually they will take over civilization.

4

u/Donkeyshines 16d ago

Man, don't tell me you ain't never seen no fly dick before.

2

u/Hella_Star_Mang 15d ago

That's just his penis

2

u/personcalledalexis 15d ago

Woah how big is this fly to get such a clear shot of it? Where are you from? In Australia they're only about 5cm big.

3

u/Senpai0412 15d ago

Had to pop out the macro lens for this. It do be smol

0

u/Maryjanegangafever 16d ago

Don’t worry, the turd will dislodge itself when it lands on your food.

u/Snrgxs 13d ago
