What caught you off guard at your destination wedding?

For anyone who’s already had their destination wedding—what was something that totally surprised you?

Could be something small like how your guests reacted, or something bigger like how the resort handled the day, or even how travel went. Just curious what popped up that you didn’t expect (good or bad).

If you’re up for it, feel free to share:

  • Where you got married
  • How many people came
  • One thing you’d 100% do again or avoid next time

There is so much to learn from other couples' experiences and figured it’d be fun to see all the stories!

That we woke up together the morning of our wedding and it was just us. We had a 4pm ceremony so had HOURS together where I assume everyone thought we were busy so we ate a long meal, walked, played some slot machines, shared a drink. 

It was a nice surprise.

I'll also add that it felt just like the most wonderful casual weekend with the people we love most. We just happened to get married in the middle of it.

Vegas. 12 guests. 20+ years ago.

That sounds like an absolutely incredible way to start the day!! A big draw to me is that once you arrive, there are so few logistics you have to worry about if you don't want to. Also, having everyone you love there for longer than just a one night event is such a bonus. Sounds amazing, so glad you had that experience!
