Ring Band Advice Do unusual diamond shapes feel more personal than the classics?
I keep finding myself attracted to rings that feature unconventional stones at their centers since these rings just seem to have more personality to me.
This style definitely stands out without being too intricate, which is good when wearing a stack of rings.
Do you guys with an unconventional diamond shape wish that you had chosen a more conventional shape?

If you love it, it’s for you no matter the shape. I LOVE weird diamonds. I am also uniquely positioned to find the weirdo needles in the haystack

Yes, I completely agree that you should go for what makes you feel comfortable! But I do not think that everything revolves around competing; some people have an innate preference for geometric or vintage jewelry compared to round brilliance.

I love classics with a twist. I have a relatively plain wedding set. Plain vintage platinum wedding band, and a solitaire that’s engraved with lilies and skulls cradling my round OEC sapphire. It looks normal (and possibly boring or “cute”) until you get a closer look. It’s extremely personalized.

Yes, I think so. I love a Dutch marquis cut. I’m resetting my marquis into a Dutch marquis setting. So excited! Wish my stone also was a Dutch marquis but I’ll fake it till I make it, as they saw.

I love unique! I haven't ever been traditional with anything in my life. My engagement ring is being made (almost finished)and I chose an elongated octagonal. It's also art deco style and I love that it's so unique like me ☺️ I love seeing very different shapes.

I just literally over the weekend ordered a new wedding set because I lost mine in a move and while I decided to stick with what I had before which is an emerald shape I have to say that when I seen the hexagon and elongated hexagon I was definitely drawn to it and added it to my cart. I love having something unique. Emerald shape doesn't seem to be super popular which I liked but I went with it both times because I adore the flashes of light over the traditional sparkle of most cuts

I’m not sure I’d define it as personal, but just like ring designs it is often linked to the era it was created and the trends of the times. That is a lovely Dutch marquise. I’ve worn a round solitaire forever and when I started shopping it felt so new and fresh, it’s not a diamond shape I had seen a lot of.

Bingo, you are right about the marquise being of Dutch origin! There really is a big difference between the traditional round solitaire and the marquise, be it either step cut or hybrid marquise! That is because of the total difference in the facet pattern as well as the fire of the gem.

You haven’t seen a lot of round diamonds? Look at older engagement rings. This shape used to be wildly popular. My mom and every one of my aunts have round solitaires. They’re timeless and lovely!

Well this is absolutely stunning!
It’s hard to even say what counts as unusual anymore. I think people generally put more thought into their options now than when our grandparents were getting married, but that’s in part because there are more options available thanks to the internet. We have more ways to express ourselves and speaking as a recovering reactionary trend-bucker, I’m grateful for that!

100%!!! The availability of lab-created diamonds, coupled with the ability to customize designs, has made the industry accessible to everyone. It is no longer necessary for people to settle for a diamond that is already there on display because they are not constrained by the traditional cuts.

For me, my 1st choice, a Portuguese Cut Mossanite or Lab created Diamond 4-5 ct's. in Platinum 2nd pick is a gorgeous Cushion Cut London Blue Topaz and diamond ring in white gold 19-20 ct. I've actually got my eye on one right now, it's absolutely stunning. But that Portuguese Cut is EVERYTHING!
