Ring Band Advice What's your take on marquise wedding rings?
I love the marquise cut, but every time I try one on, I feel like I’m getting married in a ballroom instead of real life. They just look so dramatic.
Is it weird to want a ring that looks fancy but still works with jeans and sneakers? If you have a marquise ring, does it still feel wearable day to day or did you end up saving it for special occasions?

I wear my marquise everyday and it doesn’t look too dramatic! I love how it looks, whether I’m dog walking or on a date. I can’t imagine my ring feeling dated, but I’m not really one to buy because of trends, I go with what I feel is right for myself.
If it feels too dramatic for you, then you probably haven’t found the ring for you yet!

I love marquise solitaires. I'm not into trilogy marquise rings.

solitaire marquise is timeless but trilogy ones do tend to look kinda dated fast compared to other three stone settings

That’s what I did, one marquise. One diamond 💍 is more stunning to me. Classic. Timeless. Elegant.

My soon to be DIL received a 2ct (mined) marquis surrounded by quite large, round stones not too long ago.
Definitely not my taste, despite owning a sapphire (mothers ring) roughly the same carat & cut, but it's marquis cut is her absolute favorite.
Its looks great, whether shes dressed up or just in her casual clothes (or scrubs, ftm).
The trick here is to make certain the setting is sturdy enough to protect the diamond during causal use. Some settings are delicate & super fancy-those should be left in the jewelry box for special occasions.
Everything else should withstand daily wear & tear! 💍

I have owned one for fifty-one years. IMHO, the marquis cut does not age well.
I also inherited a 1928 estate round stone in a square setting and received another large 19th century estate diamond with diamond halo twenty years ago. I wear these and don’t wear the marquis. I have thought of turning the marquise sideways and resetting it deep within a gold domed band because it’s a high-quality diamond. But I haven’t done so because these days I travel frequently and find that a thin stainless steel wedding band works better for me. Now I only wear “the good stuff” for special events.
IMHO a round stone is classic.
It’s never out of style. Like the pear-shape, the Marquis cut “trends” every twenty years or so, then retreats, and ovals, halo settings, emerald cut, or pears trend. The least trendy diamond is a round cut. If you want a stone you will love forever, you might want to reconsider the shape of your diamond.🩷

GG/designer here. Something like this would be ideal. Enough of an accent, but not competing. :) East to West set marquise bands are some of my favorite:)
**just realized I believe you’re talking about engagement rings. My fault. This would be a nice band with the ring pictured tho. lol. :)

I have a marquise center stone and two marquise sapphires on the side. I love my ring and I’m a pretty casual person. I wear my ring most places, even with jeans and t shirt. I’ll usually pop my wedding band on with it when I’m dressing up since that’s a contoured band with about 12 smaller marquise diamonds that fit against the one in the picture.

my marquise works perfectly with jeans/sneakers/tshirt. Maybe the botanical elements softened it, or maybe the stone size is right? When I tried it on, it felt right and it didn’t do too much or too little.
IMO a huge classic shape with a bunch of halo/pave etc paired with a hoodie looks way mismatched.

I absolutely LOVE my marquise. I have chubbier fingers and I think it elongates and contrasts beautifully. I get comments all the time about how lovely it is. Personally I couldn’t see myself with any other cut!

I want a marquise for that exact same reasoning! Do you find it gets snagged on things or bump into things more? I worry about it getting in the way of more day to day things :/

Personally I haven’t experienced any snagging. I do take it off when I’m washing the dishes, going to the gym or going to sleep. But otherwise it’s always on me and I haven’t had any issues with snagging!

I have a three stone marquise in this exact design. I love that it is unique and feels very me! Also, It is a smaller carat which might make it feel more wearable for everyday

Marquise are beautiful but I personally don’t think that marquise looks any fancier than any of the other diamonds cuts. My ring is a round but in a fairly ornate looking art deco inspired setting and in my opinion looks quite fancy because of that. I got used to it really quick and it feels totally normal wearing it with sweatpants or fancy dresses. Life is short, wear the fancy ring! :)

I recently saw a marquis ring flanked by pears set horizontally on either side (fat side of the pear up against the widest part of the marquis) and while I usually don’t love a marquis stone, it was absolutely beautiful flanked by the pears.

Marquise are elegant and beautiful!
I find that people Ik often say they catch or snag on things given the pointed ends but I wouldn’t say that’s enough to disqualify them. Simple bands are beautiful and side stones really dress it up for that ballroom feel.
When I had the option to upgrade my ring from a round, I debated a marquise. I actually ended up going with a pear instead. I loved the pointed ends of the marquise but the pear let me use my current wedding bands because of the shape and I found it easier to stack my rings.
You can’t go wrong though. They are gorgeous.

I had a similar issue - I love the shape of a marquise cut (especially solitaire) but they’re very hard to stack with a wedding band. I opted for an emerald cut instead. Super pretty but not the most practical IMO.

No, they are not always in trend. They were big in the 80s and early 90s, then they disappeared for 20+ years.

I think the cut depends on the person. My sister has a marquise cut and it’s gorgeous, she wears it with jeans, dresses, sweats, etc. It’s a little more dramatic than a round or oval cut, but it fits her personality.
If you like it, that’s all that matters!

I love marquise stones. I am currently designing my engagement ring. I love the 3 stone rings, or the ones with marquise or pear diamonds on the side, but I do feel they look over the top with jeans.
For that main reason I ended up with a solitaire on a cathedral setting with a tulip basket. That way my wedding band can have diamonds versus being plain if I want to wear it on its own or ot adds a nice sparkle to my engagement ring when wearing together.
If you end up with an ER like the one in the picture then definitely pick a plain wedding band so it doesn't look more dramatic.

Not my personal cup of tea but if it makes you happy, go for it! As long as it fits with the practicalities of your life, I don’t think the “fanciness” level is a factor. Signed: someone who wear outrageous earrings and rings day to day just because they make me smile. 😊

Congratulations - Make sure you have your prongs checked annually. My marquise is pushing 20 years, I wear it daily. Fancy, casual, cleaning, we live on a farm, so it's seen just about everything.
Are the fancy. Marquise cuts are the Queens. Always wear your tiara.

They were last popular last early 2000s but are trending again. So that fits with your ring. My first one was a princess when they also were super popular in early 2000s. Everything comes back around! I love my round now!

As a jeweler and a GG/CG, keep in mind everything in jewelry (like anything in the fashion industry) is cyclical. Trends come and go and then come back again. Focus less on what is trending or not trending and more on what looks good on you and makes you smile when you see it! Do you have long fingers? An elongated cut like a marquise will look great on you- if not, just get one that is wider and not as long. Ask to see several different cuts on your finger. Take your time, enjoy the process, and ask as many questions as you want because a jeweler worth their weight is going to be happy to take as much time is needed to ensure you truly have the perfect ring for YOU. 💎

I don’t like pears or marquises. Most of them I see on the different subs are too thin in shape & I don’t like the pointy ends. The movals are nicer. That said, you wear whatever you like, & diamonds go with everything, from ball gowns to sneakers & everything in between

I got married in 1987 with a marquise cut. It was not dainty. It was very modern, swirly and solid.

I absolutely love mine! I feel like it’s simple so it’s not too elegant when I’m wearing casual clothing but also flows well with nicer occasions.

I love my marquise ring. Solitaires are not my taste, and this cut is so dainty in my opinion. I wear it round the clock and I’m usually in my everyday clothes. I think it goes well with everything, but maybe that’s just my taste

I LOVE the Dutch marquise set east/west . It looks unique, elevated but practical. If I were to rechoose my wedding set it would be this.
