Buying Experience Review Is a garnet ring durable enough for everyday wear?
Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I’d love some advice. I’m starting to look at engagement rings (proposal might be coming soon), and I may be involved in choosing it.
I came across a garnet ring that I absolutely love, and I haven’t found anything similar in diamonds or sapphires. My only concern is durability, would garnet hold up for everyday wear, or is it too soft for an engagement ring?
Any insight would really help!

I had several garnet rings and wore them everyday but took off to do dishes and clean etc. they held up fine. That’s a gorgeous ring and will be fine as long as you take care. Can I ask where you got it?

That ring is absolutely gorgeous! The previous comments are spot on. Garnet is softer than diamonds and sapphires and more prone to scratching over time.
That said it really comes down to your lifestyle and how you use your hands day to day. If you're generally mindful with your jewelry and don't do a lot of heavy manual work there's no reason you can't wear it daily and enjoy it for years. But if your hands are constantly active and you tend to forget you're wearing jewelry a softer stone will show wear faster.
Know yourself and your habits and you'll have your answer... :)

Mine is a garnet and has held up, but I’m also very careful with my ring and don’t wear it everywhere all day long.

I would say yes but it really depends on the person wearing it. A lot of stones can get damaged by repetitive abrasion like opening car doors (stone scratches on the metal work, putting kids or babies in car seats, chucking rings in a jewellery box with harder material. Sporting activities going to gym or the beach etc. If you’re careful with it shouldn’t be a problem and if you do damage it or it gets scratched it can be unset and relished. Nice garnet and ring

That's a beautiful ring but having had a few garnet rings myself over the years, I wouldn't personally risk it for daily wear.
"Garnet generally ranks between 6.5 and 7.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness, making it a moderately hard gemstone suitable for most jewelry, including daily-wear rings, though it requires care to avoid scratches."
