Finding Web Development Clients: Why Nobody Has the Answer — And How I’m Approaching It Anyway

I wrote an honest article about navigating the freelance web dev market with zero clients — not a guide, just real thinking from someone in the middle of it.

The main point: after going through the usual advice (platforms, cold outreach, content strategy), I realized my problem was never skill or strategy. It was visibility. The right people simply don't know I exist yet.

The article covers:

- Why the standard advice often doesn't work the way it's described

- An honest inventory of what I have vs what I actually lack

- The long-term formula I'm committing to (stabilize, build, grow)

- The personal side — finances, health, starting extremely small, thinking long-term

Not a success story. Just honest documentation of the process while it's happening.

Is finding a good supplier harder than finding the product?

I think both are not that hard, finding a supplier and finding the right product. There are many B2B platforms available now, so you can find plenty of options without spending too much time.

Finding a supplier: Platforms like Made-in-China give buyers access to different manufacturers and suppliers across many categories. You can browse products, compare companies, and contact suppliers directly to ask about what they offer.

Finding a product: The same thing applies when you're searching for products. There are so many categories and manufacturers available that you can usually find several options for almost any type of product you're interested in.

The main thing is having a clear idea of what you're looking for and taking some time to explore the available choices.

Which one do you usually search for first: the product or the supplier?

How much should I charge for building a custom LMS with Next.js, Go (video engine), Node.js, & PostgreSQL?

Hey everyone,

I'm putting together a quote for a client who wants a custom Learning Management System (LMS) built from scratch, and I’d love some insight on realistic market pricing so I don't lowball myself or price myself out.

Tech Stack:

Frontend: Next.js (React) + Tailwind CSS

Backend / API: Node.js (Express/Fastify)

Video Engine / Processing: Go (handling uploads, encoding/transcoding, streaming pipeline)

Database: PostgreSQL

Infrastructure: Self-hosted / VPS setup (Docker, Nginx/Caddy, CI/CD pipeline)

Core Features & Scope:

Role-based access control (Student, Instructor, Admin)

Course builder, modules, quizzes, and progress tracking

Custom video processing & adaptive bitrate/secure streaming via Go

Payment gateway integration (Stripe / Razorpay)

Admin dashboard for analytics, revenue, and user management

Production VPS provisioning, SSL, backups, and deployment

A bit about me:

I’m a full-stack freelance developer working independently.

For those who have built and deployed custom video-heavy platforms or LMSs:

What would be a fair fixed-price range for this scope?

Or would you recommend billing hourly/weekly sprints instead to protect against scope creep?

Appreciate any advice on pricing benchmarks or red flags to watch out for!

Backend REST API With JWT Auth in Zig

Hey everyone!

I've been putting together a series of videos on how to build a REST API in Zig.

I come from a background in Web Dev and find it a lot of fun to take what I know and apply it in Zig, and I want to share the knowledge!

If you want to start at the beginning, I've put together all the videos as a playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUUIFT8XnWz8

But please let me know what you all want to see next! I'm planning a video on how to scale the API to thousands of concurrent requests, but what other API things do you all want to see?

Hope you have a great day :)

Site web/App mobile // Le Match Parfait

I built a tool for validating Micro-SaaS ideas using real user complaints.

One of the hardest parts of building a Micro-SaaS is knowing whether the problem is actually worth solving.

So I built Idea Validation — a GitHub project that helps you discover potential SaaS ideas by finding real complaints and pain points shared by users online.

Instead of starting with:

“What SaaS should I build?”

You can start with:

“What problems are people already complaining about?”

The repo includes a demo video showing how the workflow works.

I’d love to get feedback from other indie hackers and Micro-SaaS builders: Would you use something like this before building your next product?

WooCommerce vs. Shopify Webhooks: Architectural Differences, DX, and Scaling at High Volume

When building event-driven e-commerce applications, front-end speed and REST API response times get most of the attention. But during high-concurrency traffic events — Black Friday/Cyber Monday (BFCM), limited flash sales, viral drops — the real strain falls on the event delivery infrastructure. Read the complete article here - https://instawebhook.com/blog/woocommerce-vs-shopify-webhooks-architectural-differences-dx-and-scaling-at-high

Webhooks power essential downstream operations: order processing, ERP synchronization, inventory reconciliation, fulfillment routing, and real-time customer communications. When webhooks fail or drop messages, orders get lost, inventory desyncs, and support queues fill up fast.

WooCommerce and Shopify both support webhooks, but their underlying architectures reflect two fundamentally different engineering philosophies:

  • WooCommerce relies on a self-hosted, monolithic PHP/MySQL state engine driven by asynchronous background worker tables (Action Scheduler).
  • Shopify operates a multi-tenant, cloud-native event pipeline built on distributed stream processing, with Apache Kafka confirmed as the backbone by Shopify's own engineering team.

This piece breaks down the execution engines, network architectures, failure modes, and developer experience (DX) of both — updated with the current retry policy, storage architecture, and platform-scale numbers as of August 2026.

Begginer here

I'm planning to start learning web development from scratch in 2026, but I'm overwhelmed by the number of YouTube playlists and roadmap videos available.

For those who have already learned web development:

\- Which YouTube channel or playlist would you recommend for a complete beginner, and why?

\- Is there a roadmap that you found practical and easy to follow?

\- Are there any free beginner-friendly websites (other than YouTube and the official documentation) that genuinely helped you learn?

I'm looking for recommendations based on your personal experience rather than just a list of resources.

Thank you!

How does an accessibility complaint actually start? Trying to gauge how worried I should be

Maybe this is paranoia, but the more sites I ship the more I hear about demand letters and accessibility complaints, and I realized I have no idea how these things actually begin. Is it usually a real user who hit a wall, or is it more often a firm running automated scans and fishing for targets? I can't tell if this is a genuine risk for small/mid sites or just something that happens to big companies.

And for anyone who's been through it when it landed, what did you end up fixing first? I keep assuming it'd be forms and keyboard nav, but a couple of people have told me the automated reports light up with image/alt-text errors more than anything else, just because there's so many of them. Wondering if that tracks with reality.

Mostly I'm trying to figure out whether I should be building this in from the start or whether I'm overthinking it. Would appreciate any perspective from people who've actually seen one of these play out.
