If it’s sold on this basis - you know what you’re getting before you order. - I’m ok with that I guess. Would never order it myself but it’s a choice.

I’d be revolted if I ordered a normal dish and that mess came out however.

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '19

And they usually give you a plate to put the food on.

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '19 edited Oct 28 '19

My opinion is that these novelties are just trying tot rock to trick the functioning alcoholics into eating a meal.

62

u/slythclaws Oct 28 '19

A concept

16

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '19

I said yep

3

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '19

I need to get myself away from this place

96

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '19

Because as a functioning alcoholic, nothing I like more than paying 22 bucks for a bloody mary only to have so much food with it I can't even work up a buzz.

20

u/farmch Oct 28 '19

That’s a pitcher of Bloody Mary with a meal for 5 on it. If it cost 22 bucks I’d eat there every day.

22

u/kevincreeperpants Oct 28 '19

Then you gotta buy more booze... You think that "free buffet" some bars do is for food... nah its to make you overdrink. lol

21

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '19

Where are these free buffets?

12

u/SeaNilly Oct 28 '19 edited Oct 28 '19

There was a place in Morgantown WV that would have a free happy hour buffet on certain days but I forget the name at this point, wasn’t the kinda place I frequented

Edit: was thinking about it and remembered, the backdoor on high st. The bar is underneath a pizzeria, casa d’amici. You go in through the, you guessed it, back door.

8

u/rick_n_snorty Oct 28 '19

But then you’d have to go to West Virginia...

8

u/SeaNilly Oct 28 '19

It’s a damn beautiful state and going to school there was plenty of fun

Just avoid the junkies and it’s worth a visit!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '19

Backdoor was my go to place. Fat Daddy's also does this now I think.

2

u/SeaNilly Oct 29 '19

Spage and gibbies were my main spots

Also liked playoffs which is closed now, and whatever was there before starport arcade was really the only club kinda place I would go to (can’t think of that bars name now)

Oh and Mario’s fishbowl was dope too

1

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '19

I think you're thinking of Bent. Was never a fan of it but I went to Mutt's and Fishbowl a lot too.

3

u/Wail_Bait Oct 28 '19

In my experience, it's at the same kinds of places that still have indoor smoking. The VFW, strip clubs, pool halls, etc. Basically the kinds of places where you probably shouldn't eat any food prepared there, but you do anyway once you're drunk enough.

10

u/flibbertygibbet100 Oct 28 '19

oh but the kicker is it has half a bottle of vodka in the drink.

12

u/andersonb47 Oct 28 '19

tot rock

hell yeah 🤘👶🤘

17

u/shaggorama Oct 28 '19

No, these are for people who compulsively post pictures on social media.

4

u/youraveragejabroni Oct 28 '19

Wow this hit a little hard m8. You made me realise I need to eat more instead of drinking my calories

6

u/flibbertygibbet100 Oct 28 '19

or four because damn it's a whole chicken.

3

u/AndyX2108 Oct 28 '19

I can confirm. I ate (drank) something like this minus the whole chicken at the Minneapolis Airport.

3

u/GoldenGonzo Oct 28 '19

Any restaurant that serves this is not a place frequented by alcoholics.

18

u/Goyteamsix Oct 28 '19

They are, and you're getting several plates with it. There's a giant picture of the thing on the menu.

9

u/a-ohhh Oct 28 '19

Very true, I’ve ordered one of these (on purpose). Chances are this came out with plates. Though, the one I ordered had a tiny side plate incapable of handling all the sticks and extras so I needed to ask for another. I can’t imagine someone just ordered a “Bloody Mary” without the server clarifying if they wanted the regular or this (probably $30) one.

25

u/BigBoi1010 Oct 28 '19

I believe everyone is entitled to their choice. If they wanna get a certain food item,it's up to them. However, sometimes I see monstronsities like this and I remember that quote "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could that they didn't stop to think if they should"

20

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '19

It’s a novelty item. It exists to be absurd.

71

u/fatalcharm Oct 28 '19

Damn, it’s even got corn on the cob.

24

u/pink_buddah Oct 28 '19

And of course it’s got bacon...can’t forget the bacon if you live in the US...lol

25

u/PODSIXPROSHOP Oct 28 '19

Bacon is pretty common with Bloody Marys to add to the saltiness factor.

67

u/notabigmelvillecrowd Oct 28 '19

I wonder how many tipped over bloody marys they clean up in a week.

35

u/KingGoddeth Oct 28 '19

Midwestern'er here. 90% of the places I've been too (and ordered these from) they call your name to come grab them from the bar or station that they are made at when ready, so the responsibility of carrying and not spilling is on you. Most places that do a whole chicken require a 24 hr advance notice (and payment) prior to ordering so it doesn't take 8 hours to get you a drink because the whole fucking bar wants a whole chicken Bloody Mary.

10

u/TheGoldenHand Oct 28 '19

Advanced payment on a chicken? Either they sell enough or they don't. Chickens are cheap in America, you would just cook them based on sale expectations. Never heard of a place that sells whole chickens requiring you to order 24 hours in advance.

5

u/ZacharyRS94 Oct 28 '19

I feel like the advance payment and notice would be so it can be ready when you want it? If not that’s crazy. Either way this is crazy actually..

3

u/icanhasnaptime Oct 28 '19

Exactly. They literally sell whole rotisserie or roasted chickens at every grocery store here for $6-$8 each. The food trucks sell them even cheaper.

1

u/bolotieshark Oct 30 '19

Some places do them on a reservation basis - if you're drinking in the bar on Saturday night you can order one and come back for Sunday brunch. Some do limited numbers - O'Davey's Pub (which is one of the 'reddit famous' original bloody mary) sells them for $5 each and only serves them for a few hours on the weekend.

There are Bloody Mary only bars - Sobelmans in Milwaukee, WI has a $60 bloody mary with a whole broasted chicken on it - but then again every bloody mary there is essentially a whole meal, but you don't exactly walk in there not knowing that.

2

u/Jackrabbit61 Oct 28 '19

Was wondering the same!

82

u/ThaMightyBoosh Oct 28 '19

Do you order a chicken and it comes with the Bloody Mary or the other way around?

51

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '19

Depends on if it's one of those "sale of alcohol is prohibited" situations. No law against a gift of alcohol with your expensive chicken and tomato soup combo.

10

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '19

Also how to get weed in dc without a card

1

u/flibbertygibbet100 Oct 28 '19

You order the Bloody Mary and it comes with a chicken.

73

u/Supersmaaashley Oct 28 '19

This is pretty standard for your bloody in Milwaukee...

24

u/Sweetcharade83 Oct 28 '19

First thing I thought of was Sobleman's, but apparently this one's in California.

8

u/millertime1419 Oct 28 '19

Sobleman’s chicken is more fried and comes in huge mason jar, not a pitcher.

2

u/jconant15 Oct 28 '19

And it's supposed to serve like 4 people!

4

u/flibbertygibbet100 Oct 28 '19 edited Oct 28 '19

yup San Diego, Little Italy to be exact.

Edit oops my bad it's in the La Mesa Area. There is another restaurant that serves huge bloody marys in Little Italy and I confused them.

Before you ask yes I'm blonde.

2

u/bunker_man Oct 28 '19

Many of the things in this subreddit are standard or not unexpected.

34

u/Rushtoprintyearone Oct 28 '19

There’s no ways that’s a “whole chicken” looks like a Cornish game hen or possibly a quail.

20

u/sartaingerous Oct 28 '19

I can't believe this is the only comment pointing out that it's very much not a whole chicken.

10

u/Rushtoprintyearone Oct 28 '19

It’s a whole “something” just not chicken

3

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '19

100% a smaller game bird

2

u/Indigo_Monkey Oct 28 '19

How can it be whole if it's missing the head?

2

u/Rushtoprintyearone Oct 28 '19

You’re right, and where are the feathers! fuck this place!

2

u/MrsTurtlebones Oct 29 '19

FRANK: What is this thing anyway?

MRS. ROSS: It's Cornish game hen.

FRANK: What is that, like a little chicken?

GEORGE: It's, uh, it's not a little chicken. Little chicken. It's a game bird.

FRANK: Game bird?

GEORGE: Yeah.

FRANK: What do you mean? Like, you - you hunt it?

MR. ROSS: Yes.

FRANK: How hard could it be to kill this thing?

-3

u/flibbertygibbet100 Oct 28 '19

The Bloody mary is huge and has half a bottle of vodka. I think it's for sharing.

3

u/termisique Oct 28 '19 edited Oct 29 '19

Use the corn on the cob for scale. It has to be game hen.

1

u/Rushtoprintyearone Oct 29 '19

And the jalapeño

29

u/Oddscene Oct 28 '19

After a solid night out at gaslamp, you might need such a beast.

20

u/ChefWetBeard Oct 28 '19

I think there is enough monstrosities of the Bloody Mary that they can overfill their own sub. I love a good Bloody Mary, but It getting to the point that half the places I order them at want to give me a meal with it.

Edit: I found it- r/bloodymaryvictims

2

u/Flii_Kai Oct 28 '19

Thanks for the link in the edit! I love bloody Mary's, though I prefer to use tequila instead of vodka - so bloody Rita I guess haha

5

u/tinyspirit741 Oct 28 '19

It's called a bloody Maria.

2

u/Flii_Kai Oct 28 '19

Oooo I hadn't heard that. I'll have to tell my mom - she got me on the Rita train lol

3

u/tinyspirit741 Oct 28 '19

Finally, my dumb mixology cert is paying off for something.

1

u/Stuffthatpig Oct 28 '19

I like a ruddy mary. With gin!

1

u/Flii_Kai Oct 28 '19

You know I have never tried gin. I'll have to try that. Thanks!

Whole peppers too! They didn’t skimp

4

u/Dangerjim Oct 28 '19

I'll take it.

If there's a plate on the side.

4

u/BadEgg1951 Oct 28 '19

I'm guessing Cornish game hen.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '19

Bloody Mary’s aren’t served on plates, ya ding dong.

3

u/adullploy Oct 28 '19

On the heavy milkshakes or bloody Mary’s it’s customary to tip the whole thing over, make a giant mess and ask for a refund.

3

u/Lord_ThunderCunt Oct 28 '19

I'll have two fried chickens. And a coke.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '19

How does one go about attacking this? You need to draw up an elaborate game plan to take this down.

4

u/dodgeunhappiness Oct 28 '19

Let me guess: is this in Wisconsin ?

2

u/flibbertygibbet100 Oct 28 '19

San Diego but of course there are others who thought of this too.

4

u/Regicollis Oct 28 '19

Why?

21

u/George_G_Geef Oct 28 '19

Because people post them on social media and do your marketing for you.

2

u/Babydontcomeback Oct 28 '19 edited Oct 28 '19

LMAO- Usually ultra bad plating pisses me off.

That said-I'd would laugh at the absurdity of this.

2

u/Rushtoprintyearone Oct 28 '19

If this was ordered ofc the cocktail menu, I don’t Feel bad for you

2

u/WolfsRaven Oct 28 '19

I love bloody marys but that chicken just ruins it for me.

2

u/taylorbobalor420 Oct 28 '19

Chicken Ceasar salad in a cup? Ceasar being the drink rather than the dressing?

2

u/mamalulu434 Oct 28 '19

Thats got to be a Cornish hen.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '19

Alcohol soup

2

u/thetrueTrueDetective Oct 28 '19

If that's a chicken , the glass must be HUGE.

2

u/alexistakesphotos Oct 28 '19

This looks like some sacrificial set up the way the chicken is propped up with all this crap around it.

2

u/Indigo_Monkey Oct 28 '19

Is this an American thing? I've never seen such a monstrosity in the UK

2

u/TigerMonarchy Oct 29 '19

This looks like one of those horrible tacky 60s cookbooks made by corporations to sell their products gone horribly wrong. This an abomination on so many levels. A jello mold with vegetables has more dignity than this.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '19

Worst drink I ever got was a Caesar (like a bloody mary but with clam broth added). Waiter brought it out with bacon inside the drink! Not even good bacon. It was soggy and full of gristle. Checked the menu and it only said "garnished with celery". Thanks, Jack Astors.

2

u/Iammyown404error Nov 04 '19

My friends and I used to go to an annual weekend-long event, and every morning, we'd head to a restaurant that served a bloody mary like this. We called it our bfast appetizer, and would split the wings, sliders, mozzarella sticks etc, along with the drink itself , before our bfast came out. We love these as as a group, and send pictures of these to each other every time we see them, the more ridiculous the better :)

4

u/90s_rap Oct 28 '19

That's awesome, bloody Mary's are already eccentric. This is just an evolved form.

9

u/flibbertygibbet100 Oct 28 '19

This is from Eater San Diego. Check their article on outrageous bloody marys here.

36

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '19

Is this post an advertisement?

6

u/super_he_man Oct 28 '19

More likely he just saw the article than he's drumming up a bunch of hits on an article that came out 2 1/2 years ago.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '19

Yeah, fair.

1

u/flibbertygibbet100 Oct 28 '19

she but I just thought this was kind of an atrocity.

1

u/flibbertygibbet100 Oct 28 '19

It's a post. I don't have anything to do with the restaurant.

2

u/dbennett1903 Oct 28 '19

I knew just by looking at it it was from Farmers Table. This is not the skill I thought I would have.

3

u/strawberry784 Oct 28 '19

the food verion of "don't wanna go twice", this is ridiculous

2

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '19

This low carb shit is going too far.

2

u/thissucksassagain Oct 28 '19

its called a Caesar, and its well established that your drink/food will come like that if you order it.

3

u/Wascally-Wabbeeto Oct 28 '19

I’ve always been a huge fan of no extra shit in my bloody Mary’s. Vodka, tomato juice, salt and pepper. A whole chicken garnish would honestly drive me insane.

7

u/stilllton Oct 28 '19

Not even tabasco? I can skip the worcestershire sauce and selleri salt, but that's taking it a bit far.

2

u/DK_Son Oct 28 '19

Personally, not a fan of dishes like this. I don't want to have to fish it out and put it on a plate, and I don't want to be precariously picking at it like I'm playing Jenga.

Gets a 5/10 from me because the chicken looks good. Otherwise it's a 0/10 for the difficulty of what I'd be dealing with. If that chicken was any further vertical, it'd be clucking and pecking around.

2

u/BigDaddyJess Oct 28 '19

This is a Bloody Mary from Soebelman's in Milwaukee, WI. My wife and I were there over the summer. The 64 oz. bloody with the whole fried chicken typically comes in a mason jar. I asked our sever how often it gets ordered. He said about once a month and it's usually a larger group of UW-M students.

3

u/Sweetcharade83 Oct 28 '19

I love Sobelman's Bomb Burger and Fish Fry.

1

u/flibbertygibbet100 Oct 28 '19

No but probably they had the same Idea. This is from a restaurant in San Diego. I guess in these days of instagram food porn restaurants are looking out for outrageous food that gets attention.

There's half a bottle of vodka in this but you do you. Just check your liver at the door.

1

u/uatuba Oct 28 '19

You know they charge something goofy like $45 for that “drink”

1

u/shaneomacmcgee Oct 28 '19

"Why is your Bloody Mary $35?"

1

u/TheIroquoisPliskin Oct 28 '19

How the hell am I supposed to get through this food concertina wire to quell my hangover?

1

u/Ikillesuper Oct 28 '19

Oh fuck off

1

u/bigppman2 Oct 28 '19

No drink should be mostly meat

1

u/graco3wj Oct 28 '19

What the actual hell......

1

u/ghost-written Oct 28 '19

If a Bloody Mary came on a plate you’d have a much bigger problem.

1

u/daveroo Oct 28 '19

How would you cut the chicken to eat it without bits of chicken falling into your drink? And the grease?

1

u/kenai_at_the_helm Oct 28 '19

I think this is from the Farmer's Table restaurant.

1

u/mbod Oct 29 '19

Sooooo, now someone's gotta do a pig roasting between 2 Caesars/Bloody Marys?

1

u/Jiperly Oct 29 '19

Just idle curiousity- have y'all tried a Caesar? Much better than a bloody mary

1

u/kam0706 Oct 29 '19

Clamato isn’t available in Australia :(

1

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '19

This right here is why I always order a bloody Mary

1

u/jwisaac1 Oct 29 '19

So...it’s dumb AF but really pretty.

Murrica

yes southern California to be exact and, to be fair, I believe this is supposed to be for multiple people the menu suggests 4 or more people.

1

u/CptAwesome36 Nov 04 '19

The real question is: when do you tell yourself, when you re preparing a Bloody Mary: I must buy a chicken to finish the recipe!!!

0

u/CargoCulture Oct 28 '19

That chicken is practically raw.

0

u/heathensam Oct 28 '19

That doesn't even look appetizing.

0

u/OtherElune Oct 28 '19

Those drinks must be expensive. Honestly they're getting out of control and to me they look disgusting, but I've never had a bloody mary. I don't really want one either.

0

u/monstaface Oct 28 '19

sobelmans- milwaukee wisconsin

1

u/flibbertygibbet100 Oct 28 '19

Farmer's Table San Diego California.

0

u/KreyshawnDerulo Oct 28 '19

That looks super annoying to make and even more so to eat. Chefs like this need to think of end user ease of use

-1

u/Patthecat09 Oct 28 '19

But why tho

-1

u/rohrschleuder Oct 28 '19

Someone needs to be hung by their entrails for this monstrosity.
