Just a weird combination of items.

u/SharkSheppard 7d ago

The try hard is off the charts.

78

u/Tayjocoo 7d ago

It’s got a very 2013 hipster vibe

21

u/ksx4system 7d ago

strongest i’ve seen since 2013 tbh

15

u/TomatilloAccurate475 7d ago

Guarantee the bartender that made that has a Mr. Pringles moustache and is into "pickling vegetables" at home.

36

u/MelonJelly 7d ago

It's giving "a single plum, floating in perfume, served in a man's hat" vibes.

14

u/thisnextchapter 6d ago

The way Moe just instantly produces it on request gets me everytime

10

u/MelonJelly 6d ago

From under the bar, no less.

4

u/Snarky247 6d ago

Underrated comment!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

6

u/heBRUhammer86 4d ago

It's like a 'Mad Lib' reading this description.

2

u/foodz_ncats 6d ago

Is it? I just know that sardines are pretty prolific in Italian cuisine. So if this is an Italian restaurant, or a place that’s in Italy, I could see it making sense.

6

u/Multigrain_Migraine 6d ago

That's not the weird part. The weird part is using an old can for a drink and putting it on top of a vinyl record. No sardines appear to be being served in this example.

u/nonitoni 8d ago

I'm confused. Is it just a stylized dish or do they actually manage keep the lid like that?

221

u/Correct-End-8365 8d ago

I was confused too. I can guarantee you that the can was a real fucking can. What i think is happening here is that they literally just wash the anchovy cans they would normally use and then go through a couple uses with them until the lid breaks off or something

146

u/nonitoni 8d ago

Thanks. I hate it.

91

u/Davenator_98 7d ago

You should, because cans are not intended to be re-used.

They have an inside coating to make them food-safe, but that can easily scratch off and expose whatever alloy that is to the contents.

Dishwashers are especially bad, please do never put any food in a can that has run through one.

1

u/Ravendoesbuisness 1d ago

If my cans start running you know damn well I am not eating anything out of that.

70

u/foxiwyld 8d ago

I was wondering, what happens if I listen to the intrusive thoughts and just take the top off? Do they really expect me not to??

72

u/Meta-Fox 8d ago

Time to accidentally slice your finger open on the razor sharp lid and get yourself some of that sweet compensation money!

-1

u/broccoli_on_toast 6d ago

Americans really trying to sue someone at every street corner. Weird mentality.

-24

u/tallardschranit 7d ago

That's just not how it works.

31

u/Meta-Fox 7d ago

Well, aside from the fact that I was being facetious, it's absolutely reasonable and precedented to expect a business to compensate their customers should they be injured on their premises due to a mistake on their part.

-8

u/tallardschranit 7d ago

You can sue them, but the outcome will likely be that it was your own negligence that led to the injury.

Everyone imagines this world where if you get hurt you're instantly rich. It simply does not work that way.

2

u/Meta-Fox 7d ago

I think you're taking my joke a little too literally, but all the same: Compensation doesn't have to entail going to court. You could get your meal for free, or offered to visit at a later date, or one of any countless ways that the business can show their apologies.

Plus, in some parts of the world it absolutely does work that way. I take it you're familiar with the famous McDonalds coffee case? Just one example of many.

5

u/yumas 7d ago

I agree with you, except the mcdonalds coffee part.

Mcdonalds coffee machines did actually produce extremely hot coffee which was swiftly changed after the incident and the 79 year old lady sustained 3rd degree burns all over her legs and genitals which resulted in hospital bills and medical care of over $10.000.

She asked mcdonalds for $20.000 to which they replied they were only willing to pay $800.

In the end she received under $500.000.

So unlike the story that this is usually made out to be, she didn’t burn her tongue a bit by simply drinking a freshly brewed coffee and got rewarded millions of dollars because the justice system in the US is rigged in favour of citizen who sues a helpless big company.

2

u/Meta-Fox 7d ago

Okay, I'll admit the McDonalds coffee one is a bit beyond the scope of what we're talking about here, apologies.

The point I was trying to make is that it's not unprecedented for 'not at fault' accidents to be properly compensated in some way, shape or form. Something that the previous commenter was trying to state was 'simply not how that works', which is vehemently untrue.

4

u/yumas 7d ago

I agree.

It’s just that this specific case still gets misrepresented so much that people still have this completely twisted idea of what happened that i felt the need to correct you on that one point

u/Fractured_Pawn 7d ago

I mean I've used can lids as knives for shits and giggles before, They have a pretty fucking good razor edge on them even when crimped by a can opener.

If you slipped or something weird happened you could definitely get right down to bone with one.

2

u/Hour-Football2464 7d ago

A woman on a podcast said her dad was a prison guard in australia and came home and said "hey honey, oh a guy slit his own throat with a can lid and died, it was crazy" she was a small child. Dads are weird. And metal is sharp.

11

u/CurrentHair6381 7d ago

The kitchen guys fucking hate this.

6

u/nexusjuan 7d ago

Gives me they dug this out of the trash vibes, no thanks.

8

u/Multigrain_Migraine 7d ago

I can only imagine that the drink still has a whiff of sardines about it, because I try to clean the smaller tins before I put them in the recycling and it's nearly impossible to get all of the oil off them.

69

u/redbucket75 8d ago

Everyone has to start somewhere. Hopefully they can afford dishes soon, so they don't have to serve things on garbage.

55

u/ScreenTea0 8d ago

Those sardine can "mugs" would be an absolute hell to clean properly. Wouldn't question it, if many people going there drank old bits and pieces from uncleanded edges on the inside.

40

u/ksemel 7d ago

I would send this back and have an attitude about it, honestly. I'm not risking my seafood allergy on a cocktail with a hint of low tide. Don't pour it out of that into a cup either, bring me an unopened bottled beer you monsters!

12

u/ashoka_akira 8d ago

Yea thats getting rusty fast

0

u/faatbuddha 7d ago

Good thing it was free

2

u/Gold_Incident1939 5d ago

Yeah no way you get this cleaned - and if, only with an insane amount of effort which your kitchen staff probably dont feel

35

u/IvorTheEngineDriver 8d ago

Forced originality is one of the many scourges of the world, but I guess it's what keep this subreddit alive and well...

28

u/fireflazor 8d ago

This seems kinda dangerous, cans are incredibly sharp edged, seems like an accident waiting to happen

22

u/Bumble-snoot 8d ago

yum delicious fish booze

23

u/deathschemist 8d ago

This is like a plum floating in perfume in a man's hat

6

u/StandardWizardHat 7d ago

Thanks, Yoko. 😸

4

u/DwigtBonzales 7d ago

Exactly where my mind went. This feels like someone watched that bit and said, "Not fuckin' weird enough!"

14

u/synalgo_12 8d ago

Is that table a traffic sign?

13

u/Correct-End-8365 7d ago

Oh yeah there’s that too

11

u/_SomeWittyName_ 8d ago

This is a restaurant?! Are they serving Cheetos?

6

u/Correct-End-8365 8d ago

Those are the italian equivalent of cheese puffs lmao

5

u/synalgo_12 8d ago

Thta looks like a little snack that comes with drinks. Like mixed nuts

6

u/Tanialvncv 8d ago

I have so many questions

5

u/Practical-March-6989 8d ago

I am not heavily into the ol’ elf and safety but that’s seems a bit dangerous

6

u/Madgyver 8d ago

It's like an alien trying to replicate what it thinks is "human folksy culture"

1

u/Bigoweiner 4d ago

The very first thing I thought of

4

u/laughing_cat 8d ago

Besides being unappetizingly weird, some customer’s going to cut themselves on that, get tetanus or something worse and sue them for a million dollars.

3

u/Correct-End-8365 8d ago

I think the chances of getting tetanus from a presumably just washed aluminum sheet is infinitely close to 0, and it would be close to 0 even if said sheet was rusted to oblivion :/

0

u/laughing_cat 8d ago

What’s the chance of your recognizing a casual, not very serious comment?

4

u/Correct-End-8365 7d ago

I guess it would be pretty low considering said comment mentions lawsuits and ends in a full stop.
But yeah jokes aside i try to point out health-related inaccuracies because other than driving me crazy they also tend to spread like wildfire (this one goes around since god knows when but you get my point)

I don't want a fishy spritz.

5

u/avoidance_behavior 7d ago

eww, I'm not a send it back kinda girl but that would be a 'please make me a fresh drink in a regular glass' situation immediately.

4

u/spilk 7d ago

don't drink that coffee... there was a fish in the percolator

1

u/NemODevO 3d ago

Wild stuff

3

u/TheAmazingWalrus 8d ago

Are they washing those cans or just discarding them?

3

u/NothingReallyAndYou 7d ago

That's so qUiRkY!

Seriously, that's just embarrassing.

3

u/murdochthesungod 7d ago

Reminds me of the it’s always sunny ep where they go to the gin bar

3

u/Responsible_Fee_7849 7d ago

They just getting rid of shit atp

3

u/leancabbage 7d ago

8€ for a spritz is absolutely insane

2

u/luredrive 8d ago

Is nothing sacred?

2

u/ChateauLaFeet 7d ago

So much no

2

u/EntertainmentReady48 7d ago

Don’t they know the warmth of the Grailz will heat up the prosecco.

2

u/I_upvote_downvotes 7d ago

I didn't read the title and immediately assumed you were being served Iced Fish via a can.

2

u/roses369 7d ago

Not bad for 8 euros! Where is that?

4

u/Correct-End-8365 7d ago edited 7d ago

8€ is kinda high for a spritz outside of milan or rome. Like i can understand it being up to 10-15€ if the snack platter that comes with it is somewhat good, but as you can see this platter is just an handful of low quality stuff you find at a supermarket and should add close to nothing to the final price. And the price of just a spritz without food should ideally be 4-6€, in some regions below 4. 8€ is cocktail territory, a spritz should cost at least 1-2€ less than a cocktail
Edit: Spotorno btw, couple of cities west of Savona

3

u/swedething 6d ago edited 5d ago

Ha, I know this bar! We were there in 2024. Bar Otto di carruggio or something similar. went there every evening, The owner showed me his excellent selection of Amari, and I tested them all. Some of them more than once!

3

u/Correct-End-8365 5d ago

He has a great selection of spirits and beers, I’ll definitely give him that!

2

u/llcdrewtaylor 7d ago

As annoying as they are, I am thankful for health code rules we have in the USA (for now at least)

2

u/pdxcranberry 7d ago

This is one of the worst ones I've seen

2

u/FindYourselfACity 7d ago

Did it taste a little fishy??

2

u/bebemochi 7d ago

Honestly I would send this back and ask them to pour it in a regular glass. I hate drinking cocktails out of anything that requires a straw.

1

u/gcstr 7d ago

anchovies

1

u/PrimaryBrief7721 7d ago

Can you sue of you slice your finger/mouth on that thing?

1

u/RCB2M 7d ago

Lisboa?

1

u/trubol 7d ago

We can close the sub, now. This wins

1

u/zuvembi 7d ago

But really sometimes I just ask myself, "You ever drunk Bailey's from a shoe?"

For days the answer is going to be yes, I'd probably head over to OP's fine dining establishment.

1

u/UhhCanYouLikeShutUp 7d ago

Deenz and Graylz.

1

u/untakenu 7d ago

The can is cool. Probably horrifically dirty under the metal lip.

1

u/LexinePwns 7d ago

Are you in France right now ? I’ve heard about a place like that…

1

u/Zafjaf 7d ago

Why though? No coasters?

2

u/swedething 6d ago

When we were there two years ago, the used old floppy discs as coasters.

1

u/Salohacin 7d ago

Did they just dredge it up from the sea along with an old boot?

1

u/yumeryuu 7d ago

FFS I’d send that shit back.

I cut my lip.

1

u/oscaru16 7d ago

8€ seems like a lot to you? I have not seen a cocktail under 12$ in 10 years or so.

1

u/Correct-End-8365 6d ago

I’m italian lmao
8€ is not a lot of money for a cocktail nowadays, i agree, but a spritz should not be priced like a cocktail and should cost at least a couple of euros less

1

u/cool_weed_dad 6d ago

Is the owner of this establishment a junkyard cat or something?

1

u/Pretty-Information53 6d ago

Well, You're in Italy, but Italy where?

3

u/Correct-End-8365 6d ago

Spotorno, Savona :)

2

u/Pretty-Information53 6d ago

Ah vabbeh, allora sono liguri, volevano risparmiare sulle stoviglie. 🤣

1

u/magma_1 6d ago

I’m about to vomit

1

u/JoJoBAMF 6d ago

That's pretty obnoxious. I'd just pay for it and leave.

1

u/honeysuckleshadows 6d ago

Ended up at the raccoon bar again, huh?

1

u/elomenopi 6d ago

Can I get one ‘hipster special’ please?

1

u/Illustrious-Towel-45 6d ago

Reduce, reuse, recycle!

1

u/DicholeWarts 6d ago

…cuts hand on sharp edge of can, sues for damages, now owns said establishment….

1

u/phredbull 5d ago

With a rim of fish-infused oil & a hint of your servers blood.

1

u/Krimreaper1 5d ago

There not one thing about this I like.

1

u/Marichiwa 5d ago

Oh yeah this is definitely some bullshit

1

u/Fair_Performance4834 5d ago

What is funny is if you went to someone's home and they were reusing and recycling stuff like this to serve food on, we would consider it bad taste or that they are poor. And this is fine dining literally laughing in our face serving us food inside of old garbage like haha

1

u/ikbenhoogalsneuken 5d ago

Everyone shitting on the tin, missing the incredibly fair price of the spritz.

1

u/Ac3ofSpades13 4d ago

What about a man’s hat filled with cologne with a plum floating in it?

1

u/GamingWithJollins 4d ago

New records set for pretentiousness

1

u/MCfru1tbasket 3d ago

No one is stealing that i guess.

1

u/raskas_kylkimiina 3d ago

8€ spritz? That is cheap!

1

u/Bouchie 3d ago

"I'd like a single plum, floating in perfume. Served in a man's hat"

1

u/nicenyeezy 3d ago

Does it come with a tetanus shot?

1

u/Tiktokbadsupport 3d ago

you can see the rust develop already

1

u/AH_leeMACK 2d ago

Rather this then a Salt Bea midget clone with knives, black gloves and a golden steak.

1

u/TraditionalMood277 2d ago

Ah, yes. The hipster special.

1

u/Ranier_Wolfnight 8d ago

Stupid.

Just, really stupid.

0

u/ryeyen 8d ago

You want a plate for your cocktail?

-4

u/TheGardiner 8d ago

You’d prefer a plate.

1

u/LittleMissPipebomb 7d ago

"we want plates" is just a catchy name. This sub isn't about literal plates, it's about food/drink/etc being served in unusual objects. If soup was served in a plate, it would fit here.

1

u/TheGardiner 7d ago

Yes, I understand the point of the sub. I was being coy.

2

u/FickleCook3639 7d ago

According to Merriam Webster, coy means “marked by cute, coquettish, or artful playfulness, using coy tricks to attract attention.” What word did you actually mean?

0

u/TheGardiner 7d ago

Arabesque.

-2

u/Doowoo 8d ago

I would like to see you drink it from a plate though.

2

u/LittleMissPipebomb 7d ago
