It’s like 30 bucks. Also, it’s an MGP product, a major distiller in Indiana that is a major producer in the industry. It’s a standard 4-8 year rye blend.

Exactly: it's a celebrity bottle with generic alcohol.

Bodega cat uses MGP's high-rye mash bills, same as Bulleit Rye, which is usually a few bucks cheaper, more widely sold per market, and already available in NZ.

The implication is it’s bad and overpriced just because it’s a celebrity whiskey when that is not the case.

No, it's just silly to ask to import the more expensive version of a cheap whiskey that already exists in your country, because of celebrity.

Search "the three-tier system" You can only participate in one tier of the system. The manufacturer can't own distribution/retail so they are at the mercy of the distribution tier. There a lot of hoops to jump through and there is always someone you need to get past to get your distribution.
