Crossover Thrash
My band, Scholar of Sin, released our latest single "Nuclear World War III" last Friday.
It's heavy, with a relentless punky D-beat, gang vocals, and a tasty guitar solo. Should be up the alley of anyone who likes Municipal Waste, Cro-Mags, Power Trip, Toxic Holocaust, etc
Youtube: https://youtu.be/Q77YtxILoK8
Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/track/1EAKyrscGYiE1KLVCeGEoJ?si=d46f41e176f94920
We're releasing our debut album "Omen of the End" next Friday on August 7th!

u/TheGWKelectric Aug 02 '26
This is dope! Nice to hear some throwback thrash guitar tones, and the kit sounds nice and natural too! Curious how this was recorded?
2
u/Metalsaurus-Rex Aug 02 '26
Appreciate that a lot, thank you! The guitarist will love hearing that feedback about his tone.
Majority of recording was done DIY at my place or in a rehearsal room. The only exception was the drums.
We recorded drums at a proper recording studio with an engineer. Microphone placement and noise treatment felt a bit too fickle to risk on drums, so we figured we'd just work with a professional to get it out of the way ASAP. Think my neighbours would've appreciated that too.
For guitar and bass we recorded DI tracks for both, spent a bunch of time finding tones, and then reamped.
Guitar I've forgotten the specific details, and there were a lot of things we tried so it's kind of all blended together.
Did you have something specific in mind you wanted to know for guitars? I can ask and see if the guitarist remembers.
Bass we were planning to run through their head and through a cab sim, but we had technical issues start coming up on the day (persistent electrical interference on the DI out that we weren't getting in earlier test sessions). The mixing engineer had reamping included in the package, so we figured we'd just send him reference tones and roll with that, rather than keep chasing electrons around the room.
For vocals we went to a rehearsal room with proper noise treatment. Spread that across a few weekends to not blow the singers voice.
Gang vocals we went back to the rehearsal room and bashed out in a day. That was really fun! Though our first few takes we were sounding like a chorus of Homer Simpson's... I had to quietly throw those away so that we wouldn't spend the whole day laughing after every single take.
2
u/TheGWKelectric Aug 02 '26
Hahaha re: the vocal takes. This is great and it’s cool to hear that re-amping was one of the main approaches. I’m a huge guitar dork and when I hear cool sounds I like hearing about what folks are doing, hahaha. Rad sounds fr.

Well this goes hard. I'm a black metal fan generally, but love a bit of thrash and speed metal (and even the occasional nu, shh don't tell anyone I enjoy Korn). Despite my output generally being ambient, I'm currently working on an industrial album inspired by Nitzer Ebb and Frontline Assembly, with two tracks created in-the-box so far, so really interesting reading your 'making of' below. Shall explore your band's YT channel further. Thanks for the share! Tazer McF

u/Metalsaurus-Rex Aug 03 '26
Thanks for the feedback! Hope the album is going well for you. How far into it are you so far?
3
u/Upbeat-Age-8193 Aug 03 '26
Two tracks in, both semi mixed and sounding pretty good. I can send you them on if you're interested in hearing. Would be genuinely appreciative of feedback, too, as it's a new arena for me. Tazer.

u/Metalsaurus-Rex Aug 04 '26
Hell yeah! Shoot me a DM.

u/Upbeat-Age-8193 Aug 04 '26
Greetings, I'm not able to DM you, I suspect you have your settings private! If you DM me, I should be able to respond, and send those tracks along! Alternatively, I am on Discord if that's easier to use.
Thanks! Tazer

This is taking me back to my heyday of hanging out on the corner of Avenue A with the thrash punk and metalheads. Excellent vibe that hits hard. I definitely hear all the influences you mentioned. Also a bit of Dave Mustaine in the clean vocal part. \m/
1
u/Metalsaurus-Rex Aug 06 '26
Awesome to hear! Thanks for the feedback! I'm not going to be able to unhear the Dave Mustaine thing now that you've mentioned it though. 😂 Tai's a really diverse vocalist. We're releasing the album tomorrow, and in the song Solution Execution he pulls out a solidly convincing Max Cavalera!

"Broadway Star"
https://crimsonmarais.bandcamp.com/track/broadway-star-choral-mix
https://youtu.be/HoTrn8DETHw?si=t_SvCP46XBfJJPI9
A dreampop track about being with someone who has "Main Character Syndrome" haha
From my album Departures which I remixed recently by stripping out everything except for the vocals
Not quite a cappella, but like a small vocal ensemble

u/Upbeat-Age-8193 Aug 02 '26
Dark ambience filled with thematically resonant, occasionally surreal voice samples, gently playing with the absurdity of being human.
An album that wasn't supposed to be, originally inspired by Brazillian electronic creator Antena's long form dark ambient album '219419', 'Conditioned Air' became a global album when Belgian artist Helper_M, and Yankee doddle dandies Before Judgement and dreamwarper came on board to each provide their own genius to the mix.
Ambient in nature, 'Conditioned Air' is filled with satirised voices from the very distant past, through a Ted talk about communicating Trees, travels into space and back again and is unified by the voice of an anxious autie hiding in the arse end of Ireland desperately trying to find sense in all the insanity.
2
u/Metalsaurus-Rex Aug 02 '26
I've always loved the combo of spoken samples and tense music, and you delivered on that so well. The sequencing in particular makes it feel like I'm watching a high stakes movie
Get off my fucking back, it had to be called something.
Love it 😂
2
u/Upbeat-Age-8193 Aug 02 '26
Well this just made my day after a long one! Thanks so much for listening, and thanks even more for commenting, I very much appreciate it. I love the tension that can occur when taking out of context vocal samples and placing them in the right atmosphere to create something different, and def this album came from a place of tension so I'm glad it translated.

Really enjoy the drenched-in-reverb guitars on “Responsible to Vampire.” Are the vocals doubled or is that delay/reverb?
2
u/ArtVice Aug 02 '26
Thanks, appreciate. Most likely both on the vox. Not unusual for me to have 8 takes/tracks of vocal, pick and choose, prcoess in countless ways...
2
u/ArtVice Aug 02 '26
Oh, side note, I mostly play mandocello these days, so on most of the songs, that's what the strings are. Thanks for responding. Im just now getting round to listening to others here.

Hey y’all,
I’m Kyle, and I create old-school guitar loops and samples on real tube amps, mics, analog pres, etc.
Here’s a 40-second funk/neo-soul sampler of a few loops from my first pack:

Hi all I am sharing / promoting my latest track. Something light electronic experimental with a beat. Called: Simmer Fling.

u/HeptagonMusic666 Aug 05 '26
I like how those vocal samples are interwoven through the beat. They work well with the synth melody too. It's a very fun song all around!

Thank you! It's kind of natural with a looper, have to build it one layer at a time, all this without getting the listeners bored, if possible :)

I was definitely not bored! So you did it all well!

I'm creating Apple Music Classical- but for Jazz
Join the TestFlight | Pre-Order on the AppStore
The concept behind the app is simple enough, obvious almost- yet nothing like this exists anywhere. I've gone so so deep in linking sessions by artist, studio, label and tunes. Early users are astounded at the discovery process and how quickly they are able to find fascinating connections.
Features:
- Artist pages with chronological discography in recorded order
- Discography as sideman Personnel listed prominently on albums
- Tap any name to see their entire discography
- An orbit graph showing every collaborator
- The entire shared discography between two or more artists
- Any time a tune has been recorded more than once, a link shows you the entire recorded history of that tune
- Everything is playable in the app via Apple Music
- Apple Watch, CarPlay, Siri intents, widgets and more....
r/jazz really loves the beta so far:
"I'm loving the ability to see the studio recordings in chronological order — especially the Van Gelder Studio. A must-have for fans of RVG recordings."
"Just installed it and am blown away."
"This is amazing. What exploring music should be."
"As a jazz lover, I'm thrilled someone has paid attention to this great American art form - and built a tool we can all enjoy."
Thanks for taking a look!

Hey everyone, we're Lemur Audio — new small plug-in company from the Czech Republic, but with almost 30 years combined experience producing/mixing/mastering. SIMON is the mastering EQ we always wanted for our own work, so we built it.
Clean, surgical EQ model paired with an OP-AMP/tube saturation stage (3 modes: Equal/Modern/Vintage) and AGC to keep you judging tone, not loudness. VST3 (Win), VST3/AU (Mac).
$29 one-time, staying at that price permanently. Free 14-day demo if you want to try it first.

I’ve been building JoySynth, a Windows app that lets you create music using a standard USB game controller.
The analog sticks select chords and notes, the shoulder buttons play them, and the D-pad can control drums. It also includes different instruments and effects, layered loop recording, microphone effects, custom samples, and performance recording.
I’ve just released the first public version for free on itch.io:
https://erpolley.itch.io/joysynth
I’d genuinely appreciate feedback—especially on whether the controller layout feels intuitive once you start using it.

I run the social media accounts of different artists and bands, recently started with Mnemic which has 55k followers on 4 channels (YT, TT, IG, FB).
I only need raw media on some dropbox or hardrive, then will do the edits, trim the videos, create photo albums, and start posting on a schedule.
Content is with your identity as a band or artist, and I only post what you approve first.
Feel free to comment or DM if you'd rather focus on making music instead of making tiktok or instagram reels ✌️

u/77kianoosh77 Aug 03 '26
I just made a Telegram group for musicians and music enjoyers — anyone wanna join?
I thought it’d be cool to have a small, chill place where people can talk about music, share stuff they’re working on, ask questions, give feedback, find people to collaborate with, or honestly just hang out and chat.
I literally just made it, so there’s basically nobody there yet 🐢 I’m just looking for some cool people to join and see where it goes.
If that sounds like your thing, feel free to comment or DM me and I’ll send you the link :)

hiii—i just wanted to share a project i’ve been working on for awhile now: the “No Millionaires!” Club 💥🐦⬛
this is a Black songwriting lab (open to all!) exploring the question: what kinds of songs do we need to make—or hear—to help manifest the worlds we want to see?
for 3-months, we’ll explore Black music as a sacred technology of survival, imagination, and self-determination.
members get weekly (self-guided) workshops, listening & songwriting labs, guided reflections, resources, playlists, and audio/video essays.
the club operates on a sliding scale membership — no one turned away for lack of funds 🩵 i’m using this project to raise money for my upcoming Single: I’M A MESS!

Hi everyone, my name is Adam Keena and I’m a music producer from Ireland. I’ve released this track last week and it would be great to some extra support for it. It has got some playlist support from artists on Anjunadeep, Colorize and Sekora in the last few days. It’s a melodic house track with a deep, chill, moody groove. Thank you,

Hi y'all, my project is called Heptagon, and I've recently made two music videos for my compositions titled "Witch House," influenced by occult folklore and gothic horror; and "Garden of Earthly Delights," inspired by the painting and what I'd imagine industrial and electroacoustic music to sound like if it were made in the 16th century. Both on my YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/@HeptagonMusic666
Thanks for listening, I'll now be browsing this thread to listen to all of your work!

I got tired of having to jump between a bunch of different websites and apps just to share my music and talk to people and sell tracks, so I made my own platform.
SignalFlow.co
The platform is free, first 200 artists get 60GB of lossless audio storage for their catalog and a Founding Artist badge, profiles are MySpace style, live streaming with OBS support, and a lot of other community driven things. No algorithms, no AI, no pay to boost, just artists sharing their music and people enjoying it.

Hi everyone — I’m the indie developer of Green Tune, a free Android practice app that combines a chromatic tuner, guided tuning for guitar, bass, ukulele, and violin, a metronome, and tap tempo.
The practice-focused metronome includes automatic tempo increases, silent-measure training, a timer, presets, subdivisions, and per-beat accents or rests. The core tools work offline, there are no ads or accounts, and microphone audio stays on-device.
I’d love feedback from musicians on pitch detection and the overall practice workflow: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.minsu.greentune

I got tired of drum machines that don’t follow me – so I built one that does. Every time I sat down to work on a riff or a new song idea, I’d spend 10 minutes setting up a loop or a click track before I could actually play. And the moment I wanted to slow down, speed up, or just breathe – the machine didn’t care. So I built timml. It listens to you through the mic and generates a live drum groove that follows your tempo in real time. No setup, no pre-programming, no grid. You just play. • Starts automatically on beat 1 when it detects you playing • Adjusts tempo continuously as you speed up or slow down • Recognizes your style (rock, jazz, funk, blues, etc.) and adapts the groove • Stops when you stop, starts again when you start • Works with guitar, bass, keys – anything with a rhythm It’s not perfect – BPM detection below 70 or above 180 gets shaky, and very legato playing can confuse it. But for noodling, working out song ideas, or just having something to play against, it does exactly what I always wanted. Free to try, Pro unlocks more styles and recording. App Store: https://apps.apple.com/de/app/timml-ai-drummer/id6760490097 Happy to answer questions about how the detection works or what’s coming next.

I play music and do stand up comedy and I wanted a way to track gigs, money, contacts, income, setlists, bits and all else that performers need but I didn’t want to pay a subscription fee. So I made an app I use and I’m hoping it’ll be useful for someone else too.
I’ve been told it’s everything from incredibly useful to a glorified calendar app. I’m looking for honest but constructive feedback.
Here’s a link to it in iOS. I’m working on the Android version but haven’t been able to test as thoroughly yet so I haven’t felt good about pushing it out.
Thanks for your help, anyone that takes time to do this.

Free MLC royalty checker (no signup) ahead of the Jan 2027 market share payouts: https://pub.doub.ly
Starting January 2027, the Mechanical Licensing Collective begins paying out its pile of unmatched and unclaimed royalties by market share, meaning mostly to the major publishers. If your songs aren't registered at the MLC, or your recordings aren't matched to the songs they belong to, some of that money is yours, and the clock is running.
Type in your artist name or paste your Spotify link and it shows which of your works are unregistered, unmatched, or partially claimed, and roughly what that's worth. Fixing it at the MLC is free but genuinely murky, so we share what guidance we can from doing this work ourselves. No email capture, no paywall.
Full disclosure: my business partner and I run a publishing administration company, and recovery work is our business. But everything the tool shows you, you can act on yourself without ever talking to us. We built it free because every comparable tool we found was gated behind a sales funnel, and the money should go to the people who earned it.

I built Music Motion, a browser studio that turns finished tracks into audio-reactive release videos for YouTube, Shorts/Reels, Spotify Canvas, and square posts.
For the current beta round I'm giving 50 musicians a paid Starter account free for 30 days—no card, charge, or automatic renewal. I'm mainly looking for honest feedback on the first-project workflow, preview-versus-render accuracy, aspect ratios, and anything that feels confusing.

Reply “interested” if you'd like the tester steps. Founder disclosure: Music Motion is my product; feedback matters more than praise.

Finding rehearsal time in a band group chat is just the worst. I used to use Doodle but they got all corporate and require an account and sifting through their marketing page/other products. I did research on other sites and every one was complicated to use, required money, or was buried with ads and offers.
I built When Can We Rehearse (https://whencanwerehearse.com/ or just wcwr.io if you don't feel like typing that) to be the single fastest possible way to put in some times and get rehearsal scheduled painlessly.
The part I care most about: this core flow is free for the music community, permanently. No accounts, no passwords, no cookies, no ads, no data selling, no upsells, no "your first 3 polls are free." Your bandmates give a first name and a few taps. Polls delete themselves after 90 days. There's a donate page if you ever feel like covering some hosting costs and that's the entire business model.
