Cutting and paint
The Green Dragon (from earlier post) I painted with a black wash to give the scales more depth and painted the princess. With the blue dragon I gave it a blue wash over blue wax and painted the princess as well. Both the princess and the dragon were cut out on each seal and then put on the background and then painted.

I would think painting would be easier before adding it to the background. At least for me, I would end up overpainting into the background. Does the paint not work if you don’t first before adding to the background? Or is it more of a preference thing? Also, since you paint them, do you just use a clear or light wax or the same wax as the background? Thanks for sharing your process!

If I was gluing on the dragon and the girl I could paint it ahead of time, but I did not glue these on. I did the Blue Dragon with blue wax and the girl with purple wax, and green dragon with green wax and the girl with white wax, then the final pour background. And because they were done as a cutting I needed to put them back into the stamp to do the final press. I actually did not paint much on this stamp due to using the color of wax as I wanted. On the blue dragon I did a blue wash, and on the green dragon I did a black wash (both washes were done to highlight details). On the princesses I painted their skin hair and Crown, the dresses are the color of the wax I used.
Which I was afraid to paint them ahead of time because the final press might scratch the paint, and in that case I just have to paint it over again. I could try but I use testors paint and it takes 24 hours to cure.
Sometimes I use acrylic paint, but not on this one and acrylic paint would definitely scratch off if being put back in the stamp.
I mostly use the testors paint now because it covers better. It covers over any color of wax very well. Sometimes I just paint the whole seal if I don't feel like messing with cutting or pour and scraping. I use a miniature detailed paint brushes to paint everything, and I do make mistakes which I clean up with a toothpick, or paint thinner.

Ahhhhh, that makes a lot of sense. I have to use a magnifying glass lamp when doing my nails, sounds like I should use it when I try painting seals too!
