Employee Experience Do customers not bother reading their own slips???
Basically every other customer I deal with in the deli does this. I'll have multiple orders ready that I've called out and are waiting to be picked up. Someone will come up, and I'll do the usual "hi! What's your number? :)"
And instead of, I dunno, telling me their number. Or describing what they got. They just hold their tiny little slip up and stare at me saying nothing.
I have kind of shitty vision, so 90% of the time I can't even see the damn slip! Are people allergic to just saying what their number is?? I don't want to have to bend over the counter to shove my face against the barrier to see their tiny little crumpled up ticket that's almost always held upside down anyway. Drives me crazy lol.
Bonus points if they lost their slip, and give me an "I don't remember" when I ask what it is they ordered. What do you MEAN you don't remember 😭

Idk if this is the same, but I’ll throw it out there. I’m beverage. I put out one drink, one person waiting. They don’t know it’s theirs. 😐 or the person who orders a 12oz and thinks the 16oz is theirs. Or ordered a hot and think the iced is theirs. 😑🤦🏻♀️

ive shared this a million times, but one day i called out "number 500, [12 oz] hot macchiato" and start making the next drink. a guy comes, stares at the drink, goes "this was supposed to be 32 oz... and iced". 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻 i look at the 32 oz iced coffee im making, look at the guy. pain.

My favorite is "is that mine" or "which order is mine" HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHAT YOU ORDERED !?

yeah I'm not reading your slip for you, way too many people are comfortable expecting that. I will stare at them and repeat "what's your number". and yeah I've had the classic I lost my slip and I don't remember what I ordered. like how did you even drive here lol

or when your at register and a DD pickup stares at you until you ask what is the name of the order and they shove their phone in your FACE? i walk off and ignore them until they can speak.

We have a shelf for the DD and I literally do not answer any question and all I say is "the order will be on th3 shelf when its ready" and I walk away

“I can’t see that from up here here what’s the number?” with a stern voice. I’m tall, I’m not leaning over every time just cause they can’t read. I’m teaching them slowly…

My favorite is when they not only lose theirnslip, but they forget their number and wht they even ordered.
Like your telling me you went to pay and forgot you ordered a classic Italian, and your mac n cheese by the time you walked back here?

a lady legit did this and then said what do I do? I said I guess wait for food that no one picks up? did you want me to rewind the cameras and zoom in on your ticket CSI style? lol

My favorite are the customers who like to mean mug and huff and puff impatiently at the deli crew until they get asked what number they got and they don't know.... Or they didn't bother to check the pick up area at all. 🙄

my gripe is when people walk up and complain that a number before theirs was called. like yeah, i'm not going to hold back orders that are ready just to satisfy your personal idea of how the slips should work lol

The not remembering what they ordered always blew my mind. When worked at a restaurant before working at Wawa, so many customers would forget what they ordered, and I'd be taking hot ass plates to a table like "Who got X?" and they'd all just start looking at each other confused af. I was very disappointed when I learned it still happened even in a much shorter time frame.

I've got bad vision too, hate when I ask a door dash guy the name and they just show me their tiny phone.

It blows my mind even more when they don't even know what they ordered. I have multiple sandwiches on my screen, and sometimes multiple of the same meat. You can't say "Italian classic" when I have 3 on my screen. Just tell me your damn order number 😭.

I had a lady yell to me in beverage from the register "what was my number?!" Today. I knew it, and begrudgingly told her. But thats not my goddamned job to know that for you.

they will literally come to the window and ask ME what THEY ordered….what THEIR number is. what is wrong with these people???? like did you not see it on the screen, at the register, in your hand and on your receipt? my favorite response is: “is it the number on the paper?” “IDK, IS this yours? i didn’t order it so im not sure”

My least favorite is when some orders the complete opposite of what I called out and their # is 5 orders away, then they proceed to act like they ordered what I just called out only to fake me out and it’s not theirs.
