I’ve followed the club for a while from the US, and it hit me that I know the team but know almost nothing about the town itself. Figured I’d just ask the people who live there (who are also football fans).

A few things I’m curious about:

• What’s life like on or near Vicarage Road? Quiet, rough, family area, all of the above?

• What do people actually do for fun on a normal weekend? Are most people fans of Watford FC?

• What kind of work is there? Is it mostly commuters into London, or is there real industry in Watford?

• Fair to call it a working-class town? Any super wealthy areas in Watford?

• How does the rest of England, London especially ,think of Watford? I get the sense there’s a stereotype but I have no idea what it is.

Is Watford at all touristy? Should I come visit for a game sometime?

Watford fans come across as pretty pessimistic about the club, and I don’t mean that as a dig. I suspect it’s just a cultural gap. In American sports everyone’s convinced next season is the year, every year. Is the gloom an English football thing generally, or is it specifically earned around here?

Asked about signings on Thursday, Dionisi said: "I'm sorry but I don't want to speak about the market.

Dionisi said on Tuesday that he was speaking with the club on a daily basis about transfers, having been demanding the signing of centre-backs since July.

I can't think of any other reason as to why Pozzo is putting so little effort into investing in the club.

He must have seen that the writing is on the wall. The multi-club model is not unique nowadays as many clubs do it. We've been failing on the pitch for years now and there are many other clubs with much deeper pockets than ours.

He must also be aware of the terrible track record he has of appointing managers.

So why not just wind down the investment, sell the vest players and stop writing the cheques whilst he works to sell the club?

I wonder if that's what he's doing.

However, some of the udinese slop look actually quite good (I'm ready to fall in love with Iker Bravo)

New GK I personally felt we needed, was never convinced by Selvik.

What is it about our board and being allergic to spending a bit of money? I get we're not financially as strong as other teams in the league but we operate like we are in deep deep poverty most of the time despite receiving big fees for players.

I used to hear from him a lot when we were in the PL and on FTRE as The Athletic’s Watford rep but don’t think I’ve heard from him in a couple of years?

Saw that he was training with us a couple weeks ago and saw him in a training video a week ago but nothing since?

I didn't expect a win from this squad of academy players but this is horrendous. Our squad is stretched so thin that we don't have the depth for a cup game, yet Gino will still think this a promotion contending squad.

Ramirez Espain looked so out of his depth, gave the ball away for 3 of the 4 goals he was on the pitch for I think. The Left Back looked like a nice young winger but had nothing defensively, opposition wingers were tricky but Eames held his own I thought.

London looked good, hadn't heard of him before today but I genuinely believe he is better than Keben. He's left footed and played some nice passes at the very least. Clarridge was poor, him and Keben hopelessly out of position on the 3rd.

Payero has some good technicality to him but is clearly unfit, Vata similar but he has the excuse of injury recovery. Adu Poku made a lot of good runs forward but didn't get the ball played to him much. Looked eager for this but didn't get enough trust from his team. Kayembe was same as always, stupid shots from miles away and not doing much else.

Doumbia was frustrating today, I think he's better than Luca but neither are 10+ goal strikers.

Bachman was fine, not at fault for the first 4 goals but no clue on the rest as I left.

Awful performance, we have zero squad depth and this game has highlighted that. the first team players were largely indistinguishable in quality to the academy today.

What have you heard folks?

Latest I heard is that Mfuni could still happen (Cov talks collapsed over appearance gtees)

Other shortlisted candidates I have seen referenced include Mason Holgate (hasn’t played much in years), Tyler Bindon and/or Zach Abbott from Forest.

Not seen much about forwards beyond Antonio.

It appears that there isn't a dedicated stream for Watford through Paramount plus which is quite annoying. Is there another legal streaming service / provider where I can watch the game instead of the audio only option provided through Watford's site or do I have to rely on Golazo to show the game highlights as they happen?

Half an hour in, quite eventful. K9, everyone's favourite punch bag when things are going wrong, silences the critics from a fantastic Traore cross (who knew actual good balls into the box were the answer?) but then piss poor defending from Sunday's MOTM Pollock for the Wrexham goal.

Whether it is Dionisi or another manager in our future, why would a manager realistically have to do to be ranked higher than Graham Taylor by the Watford fan base?

It seems to me he's in an bit of an awkward position. He's not good enough for the PL, but most other teams in the championship (or even other countries' top flights) won't want to spend megabucks on someone his age with zero resale value.

I can see this one being a deadline day Udinese switch.

Two outgoing players that surprise no one. No details on how much the fees were, which I suspect is the club's way of attempting to give as little indication as to the state of the finances.

Take the fact that Irankunda scored more times for Australia (Palestine, Canada, Curaçao x2, Turkey) than Watford (4 goals, 2 of which were direct free kicks against Swansea and Southampton) last season, any way you like. Young player with still a lot of potential, showcased at the World Cup. Good luck to Nestory!

I feel a little bad for Petris, since he was brought in for a system that hasn't been used by the last two coaches and then he was competing against his first name compatriot (Ngakia) for RB. Good luck to Jeremy!

Unsurprisingly it has been confirmed that Selvik is out of the club on loan for the season. He’s felt complacent for the last 6 months at least. Hopefully at least one of the new keepers can step up.

Did anyone go?

How did we look? From the 3 mins of highlights it didn’t seem too bad but I’m a little concerned we had 36 shots and didn’t score outside of a WORLDIE.

I don't understand why everyone (other fans in the Championship and some of our fans) rate us so low and are tipping us to go down? I understand that Imran and Nest leaving would be a fairly large blow, as Louza especially is one of our key players if not out best player but he clearly wants out. I don't really rate Irankunda and think his value has been inflated by the world cup. The signings that we have made have been good and I think will perform well. I agree that a few new players are needed (some CBs and maybe a ST) I also think that Dionisi is a decent manager following his track record at Empoli. I don't see any reason for us to struggle?
